It's rather a huge thing isn't it.
5 series chassis?Same as the 5GT - it has the 7 floorplan...
I have to now go and think about the good old BMWs of yore...
W.T.F. is that? Another blobby BMW, completely lost the plot, still the Qandt's will be happy to flog this in china. Since Bangle arrived and went BMW have completely lost their mojo for me, the cars have got uglier, fatter, and totally anonymous. The planned 4 series coupe being cloned from the 6 will not be admired by most M3 drivers, and they are presumably an important 3 customer segment. For me I definitely pass on this dogs breakfast. Why do premium brands such as BMW need to pursue mass market numbers as it will be to Jaguars advantage when their 3 series rival appears.
Wouldn't it have made more sense to call it the BMW 4 series GT.
The flaring kidney grills are what ruin the design the most. What they should have done was to incorporate a production version, front design of the 4 series concept and then apply an exclusive headlight and bumper design for this car.

I dont think it looks as bad as alot of people are making out. Sure its not the best looking car but it looks better than the five series GT in my eyes which just lookss inflated.
I also dont get why people are saying they can't see why people wouldn't take the touring over this? I guess the main reason would be that people dont want an estate (where did "touring" ever come from)yet want the extra space this can provide.
Very niche, not my cup of tea but im sure it will sell by the boat load to middle management types.

So hang on - it's a 3 series, based on a 7 series?!
...
5 series....
5GT is based on the 7 series.
The 3-series GT is based on the 5-series platform & the 5-series GT is based on the 7-series platform?
I used to really like the way you knew exactly what was what regarding BMW - it all seems very confusing now & they do seem to make a lot of cars which are solving a problem nobody has ever had!
Seems like madness to me but the thing is when Audi & Mercedes are also at it then it will be a very brave manufacturer that says enough is enough. There will be enough people queueing up to buy this car I suppose it doesn't matter what anyone here says. Didn't Sniff Petrol have a spoof advert some years ago of a wheelbarrow filled with st but having a BMW badge on the front? Seems to be coming true!
