RE: Topless Golf R, fast Beetle GSR
Discussion
VW, if you're reading this thread, and I hope you are, please take note..
I've bought 2, 6 cylinder R32's from new, and would happily have bought a Golf R from new, but at a huge premium for a 4cyl, you are seriously taking the 'P' so that was a no!...
Think about it a GolfR cab for more than a Boxster??
That makes overpriced Porsches look good value (and I'm a Porsche owner before we have that argument lol)..
You're making BMW look very attractive at the mo, and thats where my new car cash will go very shortly.
It's a shame as you're trying to make a performance Golf into a luxury brand, but it just doesn't have any part of it's makeup that is better than any of it's competitors..
So from being top of my list you're now bottom, and I'm happy to drop £40K on a run-around....

Not that I'm interested in buying one...but hey, 260-330bhp through the front wheels alone, is not an engineering problem anymore...read Megane, Focus, etc...handling, lack of torque steer should be good...if you're willing to pay £30-£40k for a performance car, then price is not the foremost issue...
Drive it first, then make comment...

Only because you're not getting that 330hp all of time, because of modern nanny state engine mapping. It's very different to old school hot hatches where you get all your beans served up in one heap and nothing but your right foot to regulate wheelspin.I think there was a big discussion on here about torque steer last year, but even RWD cars can torque steer!

Is that rear badge a little Porsche 911 like, or is it just me
Classic VAG parts bin raiding. They have little pictures of all their parts on a set of drums mounted inside a giant fruit machine, and do all new product development by pulling a lever.
If the product seems interesting (like a 3.2 mid-engined Polo) they hit nudge.

38k for a golf... lol
I suspect that is their aim, a pseudo-911 for people who can't afford one, hence the turbo. Personally, I think they're on a hiding to nothing because the retro inspiration was so utilitarian. At least the Mini had a Cooper S variant so could pull it off. the best the old Beetle managed was a 1600cc slightly less slow engine.38k for a golf... lol
