Why would you need a toll tag on the M6? Amongst other things this makes me think this is a story not fact. Sorry but it's pure fiction.

There is a tag lane on the M6 toll but agree that it all sounds like the imagination of a fat boy with glasses whose mums died.

The one thing that does ring true is the emotion of emptiness which you only know about if you have prepared for an epic event and completed it. The down feeling is horrible.

The poster who wrote this was looking in a mirror when he wrote this so lets not be too hard on him

The story is unverifiable but let's give the OP the benefit of the doubt, it would be nice to think this was true.

Live is for living. Well done if true OP.

I've driven to John O Groats and back from Gloucester in around 23 hours just for hell of it. I never needed all those preparations, just an old Saab 9000 and a spare Saturday. smile On the other hand my father took the whole family along in a 1939 Packard 8 and it took us two weeks biggrin

Now bear with me for a second because this is will blow your mind, but did you ever consider he created a new profile just to tell this story?

I'm not convinced of the benefits of the in-flight refuelling especially as you had to deviate from the main route to achieve it.

The GT racing style vented fuel churns can dump fuel in pretty quickly and are much more reliable than some Heath Robinson contraption.

It's a nice work of fiction.

Night vision goggles with IR fogs? They must have come in useful between 5am and 3pm. And the on-the-road refuelling? Seems unlikely. Especially on an A-road between Preston and Manchester some time mid-morning? Come on.

Still, a nice tale.

Interesting. And totally mad.

Personally I'd have gone a night trip and a fuel stop allowing the co driver and driver to swap places. Apart from anything else, 10 hours in a car without stopping for the loo would have been uncomfortable!

The time lost by the stop could probably be made up by the increased speeds achievable at night (with no traffic).

Utterly bonkers though and if true, brilliant.

Post up the signed slip then, showing the times. Of course it's just random signatures on a bit of paper, but would be nice to see the only 'proof' there is.

If you don't like the story, ignore the thread. No need for the abuse. PH is a friendly place. HTH.

OP - awesome, once in a lifetime event... Thanks for sharing.

I know it for a fact because it's me.

I didn't mention we had a back-up plan in case the re-fuelling on the move didn't work. A helicopter fuel tanker.

Luckily we had calculated the fuel consumption exactly and were able to have the converted estate at exactly the right place for re-fuelling. Equally luckily there was absolutely no traffic on the stretch of road we used at exactly the time we arrived.

I don't want to mention any names because one of my colleagues is now a cabinet member. I think you can have a good guess who it is. LOL

With this extra info I hope all the doubters are now convinced. After all what's not to believe ?

Well as you've posted it from your real account, I guess it is more verifiable... wink

If this is true and I kind of hope it is then I think your part hero part raving mad lunatic. Last year I did LEJOG over a week taking the seicnc route only using the Motorways twice on hte way to John O'Groats I can beleive your comments about the lorries though on the way form our campsite in Devon down the the offical start at Lands' End we had a lorry pull in tight to the verge to allow all 14 cars (Minis/MINIS) past so he didn't hold us up ( we weren't that bothered about passing him as we were stopping for our scheduled stop just down the road.

The journey home from inverness to worcestershire took me in the rejoin of 8 hours I was tottally shattered after that so I canonly imagine how you felt after JOGLE in less then 12 hours!!!

And were planning on doing it all agian this year but I may stop overnight on the way home either that or my brother will have to stay awake and dirve some of it!!

I'd like it to be true, but it seems like a huge expense and huge risk for an unofficial record.
