Only question I have from the past pages - WTF is "...a real dime bar moment"? Saw some chap say it, wasn't sure if he'd misspelt 'Daim Bar' or if it was some odd turn-of-phrase which i'd never heard before.
Just to clear up this pressing matter.... "Daim bar" was called "Dime bar" in the UK until 2005. Pistom said:
That is really boring to watch and the guy just comes over like he's a bit of a knob.
Vinwiki has had some interesting characters, this guy isn't one of them.
He's good at self-promotion though, as evidenced by this very thread Can't say I disagree with you...Vinwiki has had some interesting characters, this guy isn't one of them.
I did watch all of it but must have drifted off because I don't remember what time he managed. Think my wife and I might do the Cannonball next year, maybe over a week with overnight stops. Probably won't bother with spotters.

I imagine it's a reference to the old adverts:https://youtu.be/95ODBr2zbjU?si=oGOclH-IxK4xhSDY

Come on - own up - you're Harry Metcalfe aren't you I did watch all of it but must have drifted off because I don't remember what time he managed. Think my wife and I might do the Cannonball next year, maybe over a week with overnight stops. Probably won't bother with spotters.
I watched the vinwiki video a few days ago, I couldn't believe he got away with it tbh..
Surely his phone would have been evidence enough.
I'd like to know how they worked out the impossibility of slowing for speed cameras / there was no way to average the required speed to do the run without getting flashed.
Good on him in one regard, but a complete piss taker in the other

It’s interesting but I can’t square the circle that he either is lying to us or the Crown.
Frankly I’d sleep sounder at night having lied to you lot.
Balls of steel to carry on at Crown court self representing (I did it once but all that was at stake was a 12 month disqualification).
The idea of jail time for driving is enough to dissuade me from attempting such a stunt.

He only has to put enough doubt in the jury's minds, so the calculation doesn't really have to be watertight. Surely his phone would have been evidence enough.

I'm with you on your conclusion.
It's interesting to see that he used accepted precedent to demonstrate that speed in itself does not constitute dangerous driving but I'm not sure what must have been going through his head to try to use that as defence over an alleged 9 hour driving period. The judge agreed.
All the way through this though, you have to ask what's going through this guy's head.
Like most here, I've no issues with the speeds but there's no question in my mind - this guy has got away with nothing. He's put himself and his family through unbelievable hell. What kind of person does that to their family and all for a cool post on PH.
Whatever he did or didn't do, he's paid for it and whoever made the decision to prosecute has managed to dissuade others from following.
It's sometimes a little sad to see what people do to try to gain the approval of others and he's sacrificed his time and his families well being to do that.

Some people just do things for the fun of it. All the way through this though, you have to ask what's going through this guy's head.

Exactly - And that's to be applauded. If that's where this ended then great but the fine line between having fun and being a knob is crossed when you post on social media regardless of the consequences to yourself and your loved ones. The mind boggles how much stress he put his partner through when the poor lady was pregnant.
The thread starts with talk of "secrecy, covert refuelling rigs and such bks but then they go and post it on PH.
In the video he mentions something along the lines that it is believed that people who defend themselves often have mental health issues and he's added weight to that argument.
It's one thing arguing points with people you don't know on the internet - it's another to put yourself and loved ones through all that to share your story when you could have enjoyed the fun of the experience without any of the crap that followed.
