You could probably fit an LS7 in there, that would get it moving biggrin

You can also supercharge the original cayman to about 460bhp.

I don't see why not. As I understand it the 997 and 987 share a subframe, so it should just bolt in. I think it would be a bit pointless without carrying out fairly extensive other modifications, though.
That's point...er..the dream. Make the ideal Cayman, Porsche won't. Ideally with the 4.0L F-6...though this'll be tough to find. Not even sure if you can buy a crate motor, not even sure Porsche does crate motors.... Obviously it'd be quite involved. Though if what you say is true, this could happen.

I guess you'd just fine a GT3 that's hard a heavy front impact. I dread to think what Porsche would charge for a crate motor if they'd sell you one at all.

Perhaps this isn't the right place for a comment like this....but given the subject of Monkey's review of the new for 2013 Porsche Cayman S. I've been wondering if a used 06 Cayman S would be able to take a 997.5 GT3 RS f-6 engine? Basically I've been playing around with the idea. Haven't actually done some work to figure out if the dimensions would allow it. BUT. If it does work, this might be the most amazing project ever. Just image the product!
I am not sure on that engine specifically but the Cayman has been fitted with a 3.8L X51 engine from the 911, the stock GT3 engine and also the RSR 3.6L engine.

I believe the conversion for the GT3 type engines is around £80k + car.

The 3.8L X51 engine conversion is easier to do and can be fitted with PDK. You can source a crate engine for around £8k. I believe the total fitted cost for an X51 conversion is around £25k.

The Cayman with RSR engine can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedd...

I believe the car was up for sale at 200k EUR but its not just an engine conversion, it was a proper RSR Cayman type effort.

More info on this car here: http://www.trackday-special.gr/forum/index.php?top...

They'd probably charge more than GM:

It would sound interesting but has many advantages.
ETA: Check it out, 650bhp of goodness wink
