I like the performance stats, but it needs a squared off and bigger boot that you can get a load of kit in. Why restrict load capacity for looks in this sort of car?

Audi have lost their way a bit after the last great car they produced. The B5 RS4.
It just feels like RS brand dilution to me.
Who cares??

Although I've always been a fan of Audis (less so these days), this just isn't my cup of tea at all. In the face of such blatant dilution of a brand's values, I'm reminded of something I heard somewhere once:

"All principles are soluble in cash"

Yep. Looks like they are! rolleyes

I guess the brand dilution was bound to come sooner or later, the other German brands seem to be doing it.

I am not an Audi fan.

I have plenty of time for the Quattro's, the RS and S ranges, but the regular vanilla diesel A1/A3/A4 cars seem like a careful exercise in style over substance to me. They're not even all that reliable or well made.

But I have to admit that I rather like this. Lots of performance, not too large, 4WD and a relatively high seating position. Should be a great cross-country tool on A and B roads, providing Audi have'nt made the mistake of giving it the same terrible unyielding ride that afflicts the RS4....

If they have'nt afflicted the car with a terrible ride, I would consider one of these.

Of course, the Radical is fitted with a 300BHP version of that very engine. Best not tell Ford.
You've missed the point, smartar$e.

I imagine most anyone can by some means get their hands on a 240PS Ford EcoBoost engine and tune it, as I imagine Radical and some others do.

However, that's a world of difference from being able to buy a Ford-developed, tuned EcoBoost, as would be the case with a ~300 horsepower Ford RS spec engine, with associated to Ford standards durability and so on.

That o.k. with you now, mate?

PS the next Ford Focus RS, due around 2014/15, will get a development of the current 2 litre EcoBoost engine, bored out to 2.3 litres capacity, and will also go in the next Ford Mustang - the one the three old men on Top Gear mocked - and will produce up to 350 horsepower. Just too bad it won't be available to the Evoque - as it's a FORD engine.
Why, thankyou!

One wouldn't want to suggest that Radical produce an unreliable engine, now, would one?

And yes, you're right - why would Ford allow Landrover to use a Ford engine? I mean, it's not as if they have any history of that, is there?

Oh, hang on.

No.

Look, just stop it now.

Can somebody please explain to the German's they don't have to produce a car for every niche on the market. Soon they will be producing a unique car for everybody that orders one!

Such a pity there can no longer be a reasoned argument without the now standard PH abuse/condescending tone.

Ford engines are used in numerous production vehicles and you are misguided if you think they are not endorsed by Ford themselves. Ginetta, Caterham and Radical being just a few of the sports car manufacturers that utilise their engines, with an aftermarket tweek here and there. Crate motors bought from Ford themselves.

What would be a cogent argument, would be; will Ford allow their halo engine in the performance ecoboost frame be used by another manufacturer. I suspect not, but a lower performance or detuned version, quite possibly. The market a performance Evoque would be pitched at would be very different from a Kuga RS or anything similar Ford may have a vague nation of building, so may actually be an opportunity to prove their engine in a completely different platform/segment.

Not if you work for the VAG sales department, and you know that these will sell faster than really warm buns.

I get the same "Why?" questions springing to mind instantly, however I'm not an aspirational 30 something woman, with bad orange skin and too much make up, who wishes to always be one "badge" up on all her friends (who she secretly hates) at the tennis club.

Also, "sooner or later"? This started a decade or more ago.

Like it or not, as the stats in the post a few up from this one state, Audi are onto a winner from a sales point of view. Their "launch a sell out halo model, and offer replica bodykits wheels and badges on base model diesels" product model has worked fantastically well from a fiscal stand point.

I'm sure I read last year that Audi were going to release a Q3 with the Biturbo diesel, producing 309bhp, which would be quite a beast (5.1 secs to 60 or something).

I can't help thinking that engine would suit this better and they could leave the petrol engines at full power in the TT etc.

I'd normally defend VAG products.

Not this one though.
