Anyone else remember this version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3uVsi_cUFM? Gets my vote as the best because of the Escort Cosworth content (this advert came a year later in 1992) smile Still got my Tamiya 1:10 radio controlled car biggrin

Based on the rampant early 1990s cost cutting in the Mk3 Fiesta and (particularly) the Mk5 Escort, shouldn't it be "Everything we do is driven by our accountants"??

Anyone remember the follow up starring colin & jimmy mcrea for the focus era cars?

I can't remember who sang the song but she was totally st & it went along the lines of

" you gotta be <something>, you gotta be <something else>, you gotta be wiiisssserrrr"
Des'Ree. Bit of a change from Brian May.

Edited by excel monkey on Friday 1st March 14:26
Aye that's the one! Des'ree, my god she was crap. I remember her follow up single had the immortal line "I've never seen a ghost, I'd rather have a piece of toast".

Or something like that. What a tt.

there is only one advert with a capri. And a mini, 6 series, 2 formula 1 cars, porsche 911 (with lights) and some motorcycle with sidecars: Scalextrix

Dont remember this one, but I would love to see 0-60 adverts done. I know it would never happen in this day and age of eco freak bullst.

'It'll do over 100mph' - there must have been carnage on the roads!
It was a simpler time back then.
Even a rev counter!!

One of Freddie Mercury's lesser known songs.
Thought it was Brian May? Did Freddie still do the lyrics then?
Freddie had nowt to do with it. The song was a solo effort by Brian May.

It was a good car the mk5 RS2000, but would have always been overshadowed by the RS Cosworth.

Indeed, wasn't the MkV Escort RS2000 a bit of a dog crapping on the RS2000 name...

Not sure what the 1.3 was like, but i had a 1.6 cvh mk5 and it was not as bad as you say. Although the engine was harsh and could have been refined. I guess those set of engines should have never been carried over and ended with the mk4. The zetec range was miles ahead of the cvh.
The accountants really can fk up what a car is, there seems to be some daft penny pinching components in almost every vehicle I have worked on and you would think to yourself, why the hell would you make this part out of such a stupid material for.

Ford were pretty lame at that point,

Mark V Escort was panned, even as someone who can see good in most cars I have driven a few and they were without much to recommend, I took a 1.3 bog spec one as a part ex and it shocked me how poor it was, anyone who hates the Rover 214 or thinks it was a bad car needed to drive one back to back with a 1.3 Escort, it was a marvel in comparison as was a MK2 Golf, anyone remember the Escort with the hillarious CVT gearbox ?

Sierra and Scorpio were ancient and well past their sell by date, even if both were half decent, the Escort was so bad, to make a half decent version they had to substitute a Sierra floorpan in.

The Fiesta was a rusty, rattly thing

They didnt have a Sports Coupe, Capri was long gone and a few years later they produced the Probe, the last time a sequel was that dissapointing it was the new Doctor Who after Tom Baker turned up and it was the bloke out of all creatures great and small dressed like a camp cricket umpire.

I remember it well, being of the age to go cruising at the time in old fords we pissed ourselves laughing at that ad, so a 2 from me for evoking the feeling of "WTF ! make sumink decent and then use that song you muppets".
Now the RS2000 ad was great (mainly cos of the Mk2 they uncoverd in it), at least it was of the "theme" of the old RS2000, 2.0 engine in a cheap family hack that never had a 2.0 till then and taken from a larger car in the line up, slightly sporter than standard seats, a few stickers and some alloy wheels, bog on really laugh

A bit of useless trivia for you.

The RS2000 add used the famous black RUD1T car, but Ford thought it looked odd so made it RUD 111T. The owner was an accountant and it was meant to look like audit.

I used to see the car at many shows in the 90s, it was concours. He also had a mint RS1800 and Mexico.

not quite....I blame cow s**t on the road, the exuberance of youth, and a complete absence of the talent needed to cope with 75bhp directed through the back wheels without traction control, ESP, PSM etc etc..

Hemant's RS1800 was BDA 1T - I used to own BDA 8T which was a Venetian Red RS2000 but is now black

I have Not long turned 28 and I do remember that Ford advert. Car adverts really are pap now when you think about what we used to see on our televisions.

I learnt to drive in my folks' 1990 Sierra 4x4 Ghia estate (the later 2.0 one) which was squarely in the era of this ad. I remember buying the 7" vinyl single of the song too..

I also remember getting pulled by the cops when I was 17 for "accelerating aggressively" and the guy telling me it was "a very powerful car" - I managed to stop myself from bursting out laughing (just).

Ah, happy memories!
