Hands up if you are looking forward to the 981 Cayman R?

Saw the new Cayman in the "flesh" - that package with a 360+ PS engine and lightened a tad would be formidable.

I want to be able to do handbrake turns and if my regular brakes fail I want to not spend 3 seconds trying to find the tiny pedal or wherever the button is located. Unreasonable?
Handbrake turns...can't argue against that! As for finding the button. If you're spent any time in the car you should be able to find it without looking no problem.

They are the solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I get that and I'm not actually arguing for them. I'm just saying that their operation is hardly rocket science and that I think it's barmy to allow something so insignificant to put you off an otherwise great car.

£100k [starting] for a another 911 scratchchin hmm, not for me.
With all due respect, I don't think you can really comment without having driven one. They're epic. I suspect this will be well worth the £100k.

Everyone to their own but I suspect this is more (ignorance + irrelevance) to you, than educated opinion.

But you can tell me i'm wrong smile
rofl Here we go again, can't give an opinion on a public forum. I've actually driven most 911 models as my friend is a die hard fan and has a new one every 2 years for the last 12! The 'only' one that ever impressed me was the turbo. So, get back in yer pram and don't make uninformed assupmtions.

At the end of the day Porsche are a business, how many of you who are moaning are actually in a position to buy a 991 GT3? I suspect extremely few and the people who are going to buy them want PDK so its largely irrelevant what you think. I do like the look of the 991 though smile and give it 4 years and I will have a cayman in red please biggrin

They have a manual, a hydraulic rack and delete the 4WS...why not offer this version? harder to justify the price?
They may well offer this, but I doubt they will call it a GT3.

I have been watching the detail videos on the Porsche main website - well the microsite.

Love the way the PDK gearbox shifter now works the proper way around!!

It always confused my in my own 911 4S with PDK when using the shifter especially after using the Quaiffe Sequential in my R500, as they were opposite to each other!!

Made for some interesting changes at times!!! wink

My thoughts exactly. How many people buy a GT3 for the motorsport link and for the driver involvement globally, and how many drop a credit card and want "the fast/sporty/whatever one" and want to be able to just hop in and drive it fast...manual changes on track are hard you know. I think paddle shifts, toys and techfest stuff is just what the average GT3 buyer (from new, anyway...) wants now, which is a sad thing IMO. I would bet the Manual C2 is closer to the original GT3 than this :/

Actually looks incredible, not sure if i'd even be put off buying one ( not that i'll ever afford it ) because its pdk only.

9,000rpm, who can argue with that?
The new 918 will have a significantly higher revlimit than that - it's over 10,000rpm.

Shame the GT3 has lost the connection with Hans Mezger's Engine and manual transmission. I suppose Technology moves on and the GT3 will be a quicker car for it. Sad to see it go but wouldn't put me off buying one. Just hoping for a Manual option for the RS????

Why can't they offer a manual and a PDK?

Also it revs to 9000, peak power at 8250 though so 750 revs just to extend your willy. Woo.
Not really how it works though, is it. Perhaps changing up at 8250 drops one out of the power band altogether.

Torque at the wheels will likely be higher at (say) 9000rpm in 2nd than it would be at (say) 7000rpm in 3rd.

Cadence curves usually have you revving past peak power to get the best acceleration.

If there was any doubt the 4.0l RS wasn't a future collectors car, it's gone now. Even the standard 3.8's might start levelling out...

These auto's - they just do nothing for me. IF I was in the position to buy a 911, I wouldn't buy this car. It's just so pointless, so irrelevant. It's not an every day car, so why on earth would you have an auto?? Lap times? It's not a racing car! Even if one was to call a STANDARD GT3 a track car (and in reality it was always just the ultimate road n/a 911 imo), I'd still have to ask why? Track days are for fun, you're not racing?!

People should be very careful with their 'effin praise of these stupid gearboxes - the manual will soon be gone, and that'll be that. All in the name of dick waving, as far as I can work out.

True, probably a GTS-RS...or a Carrera RS...stick on some bubble aches, and bumpers and change the spoiler, some retro looking wheels..charge 250k

The 991 GT3 will probably embarrass the 4.0RS at a track day. The 4.0RS will become a garage queen, whilst the track day 3.8RS owners will likely upgrade to the 991 GT3.

Looks fantastic - I love the squareness of the front end.

PDK - I'm OK with that, this car is designed for track and so PDK makes perfect sense.

Mine in red please. With steel brakes and front lift. thumbup

A Renault Megane 265 will probably embarass a 964 RS on track, which one would you rather steer=
