It's the first of the new 911s that I like the look of. Looking forward to a review.

Why can't they offer a manual and a PDK?

Also it revs to 9000, peak power at 8250 though so 750 revs just to extend your willy. Woo.

"Sub 100-millisecond shifts are available in manual mode"

That's a classic. 100 milliseconds sound so much more impressive (and quicker) than 0.1 seconds or a tenth of a second.

If its only got 2 pedals then its not a proper GT3 because ur not driving properly unless you've got 3 pedals to play with. This is a hammerblow for real drivers
He doesn't want to hear this guff either.

Nah, he is holding his ears because the new GT3 just did a fly-by in 3rd at 9000rpm.

W T F was that face.

Nice car, not a GT3 though. No manual box and an S-class rivalling interior is a few steps backwards in my book.
The biggest issue with this car is the engine. Nothing else matters.

As mentioned now ad nauseam, lack of manual gearbox signals an end of era, really because Porsche tend to be very conservative styling/aestheic-wise, particularly for 911s. So the fact that they're moving on from traditional manual gearboxes sort of really drives home the direction taken by the car industry in general.

Other than that, really surprised by the interior. This is supposed to be a driver focused car and the interior wouldn't look out of place in a Panamera!

Lewis Hamilton got his Zonda with a manual 'box -- good man.

No manual in the GT3 completely rules it out for me. Shame.

Also, the Cup car still uses the Mezger engine. Can't help but wonder why...
The fact the Cup uses the Mezger is quite significant. Why if you want a track car hologation do you not get the same Le Mans spec engine?

Because Porsche dont trust the new engine to hold up as well is my take on it.
Given their quite serious engine problems in everything BUT the mezger engine the last 16 years,
the fact that they offer the DFI engines for the consumers and another construction for racing speaks volumes.
Shouldnt have called it the GT3 then. Serving us chit and calling it caviar...

Some what of a 911R in the modern sense, not a proper old school R.

I've had a look in the car and a chat with the Porsche PRs and can DEFINITELY report it was a typo in the press pack and the paddles are 'correct' - right for up, left for down. And the gear selector goes back for up, forward for down too.

Cheers,

Dan

F1 drivers aren't really driving I suppose.
They still have a clutch, it's on the steering wheel ;-)
Loss of manual gearboxes is just another item in a long line of things the driver is being slowly relieved of. Brakes, steering, and throttle are on their way out too, courtesy of stability control, lane keeping, collision avoidance, and intelligent GPS systems.

As for F1 - were it not for the rules the cars would have been driverless a while ago.

Stunning looking car, it's going to be great despite the internet racing drivers moaning on about manual/mezger if you want that combo there are plenty of Porsches in the classifieds.

rofl your M3 wouldn't see where a 991 GT3 went.

And interesting, the PDK only option was going to come, but the 4-wheel steering? wow, didn't expect that!
