I was doing just that thank you.
Do you design intake systems for a major car maker?

Take it from somebody who has fitted a couple, on their own they do jack except give a nice rorty induction note. The x% hp increase on the box is only a gain when used in conjuction with other parts.

I fitted a Piper-X filter to my 1.6 focus (many moons ago) and it made no difference to the performance over stock, slight increase in noise but that was it.

Fast forward on to 2010 and I bung a full roush cold air kit on the 300bhp engine in my Mustang and yep you've guessed it a phenominal increase in power that was not even preceptable (if there was one at all). Though the induction roar is something to behold hehe Bung a re-map in there for track use and it does make a difference but the engine has to be tuned to suit otherwise it is a waste of time over a stock airbox, especially if it doesn't have some sort of air dam to shield it from the engine bay heat.

1. It's "engineers".
2. Not well paid.
eta: this too laugh

Although our "technicians" (them wat do the spannering and run the dynos) are bloody magicians and deserving of a more illustrious or less diluted title
I've had no greater compliment in my entire career than a "that's clever" from a technician.

Average Joe motorist would not be bothered about making his 1.6 litre Focus sound louder. I hate to break it to you, but you are the very definition of a boy racer =)

Haha, so one has been in denial this entire time? Aww well time to start acting like one then, must order my RipSpeed chrome from Halfords first, buy a Burberry Baseball Cap and put some scaffolding in my backseat. Yeah!!!

Yes but was it a tiny little Daihatsu was it not. They're aupposed to make more of an impact on larger engines.
It was, but it lost power rather than gained it.
Yes but what I'm saying is that they are supposed to work better on larger engines, so having just a small engined hatchback to represent N/A isn't a fair test.

I dont know about that, strangely it was just this morning I passed the previous gen focus. It was completely standard, except for the addition of a badge that read V8 in the same font, and just above the standard 1.6 Style badge.

Oddly it didn't have the rumble I expected from a V8.

Recently ran back to back dyno runs with a 1.9 E36 Compact with and without induction kit.. Below figures are all from the same dyno and each configuration was run three times.

IIRC we ran 148BHP with Induction Kit and cold air feed. Then returned the standard airbox with an uprated panel filter with a 4" (2" above standard) air feed straight into airbox from the front bumper and bingo 154BHP.

Above figures were with a full klarius exhaust system and superchips remap..

This may not be the case for all cars but whenever adding "tuning" parts Dyno runs are a must!
What are they standard?

My 1999 E36 318is was 140bhp out of the factory. Is it the same engine?

Most cars it's pointless however some are restriced via the airbox for lower insurance like the fiesta ST. A simple K&N 57i filter can gain a genuine 7/8bhp as the airbox is so restrictive as standard!

However on a 1.6 focus I doubt it will do anything except make it louder and cause heatsoak...

My 200SX has it. Needs a better flowing set up for the power it has.

My MG had a cone filter bodged onto the induction and cable tied onto the bottom half of the air box, that gave no power (Infact I believe it was slower) but it was fun.

The MX5 was too close to the manifold to consider without a bit of work.

I don't mind induction kits. They are good fun.

An induction kit on a 1.6 Focus??

Rip it out, refit the original ducting and use an uprated panel filter if you really must. You'll be doing 9 tenths of eff' all with that induction kit.
Seroius? why do people do this? i bought the car with ind kit fitted already.

surely it does SOMETHING though no?

makes a noise, maybe thats the something...
You ask for everyones thoughts, then when you get one you don't like you say 'Seroius? why do people do this?'

All it does is make a pointless noise that lets everyone else around you know your a bit of a knob, hows that for a thought?

what a prick, theres always one who has to become confrontational on forums.

whats up mate? your boyfriend not putting out?

anyways, i was surprised by this comment, being new to cars and just passing my test i was a bit shocked to learn that a so called performance part costing a few quid was infact restricting performance i didnt fit the feckin induction kit and was looking for help. how did i not like it by the way? was that down to your misinterpritation of text or blatant idiocy?

guys a bellend

Interesting. So this does indeed work with lots of other tuning to other parts? Its not really what I want tbh, I don't want a track car (yet) and just thought this would be a good idea to feed cold air to my ind kit, as opposed to the warm air in the engine bay. I don't expect power gains, just a better performing car, seems I should really have shut my mouth as some folk are quite offended on here. Haha.

Thanks PanzerCommander, not the first time youv helped me out mate

The best you can hope for with an induction kit is an improvement in noise. Most cases they actually decrease performance!

Christ, I gave you help at the start of the thread, replace the original ducting and fit an uprated panel filter.

This is what set you off.

And if you think I'm going to reply to your e-mail you sent via PM to get my e-mail address you can think again.
