DIY COLD AIR INDUCTION FEED ON MK1 FOCUS, K&N 57I INDUCTION
Discussion

I don't expect power gains, just a better performing car
You've contradicted yourself a bit there! If you've bought a Focus with the kit fitted then I recommend either replacing it with a standard air box from a scrapper or at least removing the filter cone and cleaning it periodically, before re-coating it with oil and re-fitting. They are supposed to last for ages but if left dirty they are restrictive and if they aren't oiled they don't filter as effectively.

You ask for everyones thoughts, then when you get one you don't like you say 'Seroius? why do people do this?'
All it does is make a pointless noise that lets everyone else around you know your a bit of a knob, hows that for a thought?
what a prick, theres always one who has to become confrontational on forums. All it does is make a pointless noise that lets everyone else around you know your a bit of a knob, hows that for a thought?
whats up mate? your boyfriend not putting out?
anyways, i was surprised by this comment, being new to cars and just passing my test i was a bit shocked to learn that a so called performance part costing a few quid was infact restricting performance i didnt fit the feckin induction kit and was looking for help. how did i not like it by the way? was that down to your misinterpritation of text or blatant idiocy?
guys a bellend

Not his fault you're a simpleton.
ahh yes simpleton, simpleton in what way? simple that i dont know the ins and outs of air intakes? yes, simple indeed then.
Sensible answer to the OP, no I don't think so. Unless you've heat shielded the induction kit properly.
I think common parlance on getting more air into the MK1 focus suggests you find an ST170 air box with the extended feed pipe and fit a KN or other high performance panel filter. Anything else isn't quicker just makes a more throaty noise making you assume its quicker.

Recently ran back to back dyno runs with a 1.9 E36 Compact with and without induction kit.. Below figures are all from the same dyno and each configuration was run three times.
IIRC we ran 148BHP with Induction Kit and cold air feed. Then returned the standard airbox with an uprated panel filter with a 4" (2" above standard) air feed straight into airbox from the front bumper and bingo 154BHP.
Above figures were with a full klarius exhaust system and superchips remap..
This may not be the case for all cars but whenever adding "tuning" parts Dyno runs are a must!
I recall somebody from the Mg-Rover forums doing this with a Mg Zr 160. He saw a 7hp increase from a well fitted cold air fed enclosed CBA system compared to OEM.IIRC we ran 148BHP with Induction Kit and cold air feed. I'd say it depends on the car, I have no statistical evidence but my 106GTI seemed to pull stronger with a very well placed closed air induction kit compared to the standard restrictive snake of pipes. I had it feeding air from the front grill where the air pressure is at its highest, the pipe ran directly to the TB and as the battery was relocated it didn't go near to the engine block and could follow a very straight path
Every modern car I've seen has a cold air feed and an oversized airbox from the factory, so I very much doubt any gains can be had from modifying these.

This is what set you off.
And if you think I'm going to reply to your e-mail you sent via PM to get my e-mail address you can think again.
i was SURPRISED AT YOUR ORIGINAL RESPONSE AND THATS WHY I REACTED WITH 'SERIOUS' AS I DO NOT EXPECT IND KITS TO BE SOLD THAT DO NOT INCREASE POWER/PERFORMANCE OR WHATEVER THE HELL THEY ARE MEANT TO DO FOR THE PRICE THEY ARE ADVERTISED AT!!!!!!!
HOW CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THIS????

where was i homophobic in that? at what point was i insulting homosexuality? its you that took offence to it.
You asked "is ur boifrend no put out" (I paraphrase slightly) in doing so you were attempting to insult him by suggesting he is homosexual (I'm sure you will now deny this but the simple fact is that you were doing so), by attempting to use homosexuality as an insult you are being homophobic.Simpleton may have been a bit harsh but you're very naive.
Those penis enlargement pills doing anything?
Forget about getting more power from your Focus, you'll be able to buy a Ferrari as soon as the cheque from the National Bank of Nigeria clears.

childish point? thats a childish point?
You're going to need a thicker skin on this here internets, that and a very large dose of cynicism.I can sell you an electric supercharger that will give you 10% more power, really easy to install in a super compact package. Only £199.99
Ignore where it says "DELL" on the label.

One thing I will say though is be careful with the carb cleaner, let it evaporate completely before you put everything back together, makes a bit of a bang if it goes in your engine, which sounds great but I suspect it destroyed a cat and backbox on my old car.
