What are they standard?

My 1999 E36 318is was 140bhp out of the factory. Is it the same engine?
Yes. They should be just shy of 140 standard.

I recall somebody from the Mg-Rover forums doing this with a Mg Zr 160. He saw a 7hp increase from a well fitted cold air fed enclosed CBA system compared to OEM.

I'd say it depends on the car, I have no statistical evidence but my 106GTI seemed to pull stronger with a very well placed closed air induction kit compared to the standard restrictive snake of pipes. I had it feeding air from the front grill where the air pressure is at its highest, the pipe ran directly to the TB and as the battery was relocated it didn't go near to the engine block and could follow a very straight path yes

Every modern car I've seen has a cold air feed and an oversized airbox from the factory, so I very much doubt any gains can be had from modifying these.
I did say it could be different for other cars but Dyno runs are a must when applying parts. Auditory senses can help trick the brain into thinking something is faster than it is.
The BMW has a cold airfeed into a decent sized airbox as standard but it was restrictive (a 2" pipe into a 4" port) and runs over the top of the radiator from the opposite side of the airbox. Rerouting from the airbox side of the bumper straight into the standard inlet port of the airbox released a couple of ponies.
Also the airbox has a resonator attached. Removing this also dropped a couple of ponies.

My point is some car manufacturers spend alot of time and money developing intake systems. Whilst they may not provide air for the most power attainable removing perceived restrictions such as an airbox or a pipe that curves doesn't always equal more power. Your ECU expects certain parameters, go outside of those too far and it will sulk and you will lose power.
The only way to gauge what is and isn't helping is on a reliable Dyno.

Do you really need to post a witty retort to every single post?
Anyway I was halfway through an edit there so go back and read that.
I really don't see how that engine flush stuff is supposed to work, does it go in your oil or what? I don't think you'll see any benefit from it.

Sensible answer to the OP, no I don't think so. Unless you've heat shielded the induction kit properly.

I think common parlance on getting more air into the MK1 focus suggests you find an ST170 air box with the extended feed pipe and fit a KN or other high performance panel filter. Anything else isn't quicker just makes a more throaty noise making you assume its quicker.
many thanks for the valuable advice!
Try the ford part of this forum or here http://www.ffoc.co.uk/forum/

However if you want to make the 1.6 focus any faster you'll end up spending a st load of money and getting very little improvements. Best thing to do is get some decent training, good tyres, makes sure your brakes are tip top and enjoy driving, but find a normal airbox from ebay or a scrap yard first wink .

£1000 spent learning to drive more effectively will improve your relationship with cars for life, £1000 on tuning a focus will amuse you until you get over enthusiastic and crash.

thanks for this mate, im not looking to get my focus faster! all i wanted was to see if there was any advice on wether or not i did a good thing by adding a cold air feed?

i want to do cosmetic work and save for a mk1 RS or Subaru Impreza, but in the meantime i want a nice focus that, yes, i can learn how to drive properly and feel the fun of driving, i already love it and enjoy it and feel it has just enough oomph to get me from a to b.

and i got the normal airbox with the sale, i reckon ill get it on and punt the k n on fleabay.

excellent advice!

Cold air feeds as shown earlier in the videos are pointless, however even though I lost some vital horsepower from a car with... none, I enjoyed my induction kit for revving the life out of using the car around town. When I started to travel to Uni on the m'way it became an irritance. (Along with the exhaust which was awful at 70 biggrin)

Be careful with engine flush. I've read the chemical's may damage seals on older engines. Can't say for sure this is true though.

That's what I'd be doing. A K&N type panel filter will improve throttle response very slightly based on my experience of one in a 1.8 focus, but it doesn't go any quicker.

Everyone has done a daft mod to their car if they were young and stupid though, my old MK6 Escort had a small air feed pipe that fell off, the replacement took 30 seconds to fit and cost £3.50 but without it the car sounded like it had an induction kit, so I left it like that for months boxedin

We can offer you the option of a grammar awareness course, it only costs £20 more than the fine, means spending an hour in the company of (other) morons and it won't affect your premiums (unless your insurance provider asks if you've attend such a course, in which case it will)

disclaimer:
I'm not really being a grammar Nazi, I correct misuse of your/you're with only a view to help and it's become something of an in-joke between me and me, everything I have posted in this thread has been accompanied by a mild smirk, except the homophobia bit, calling someone gay as an insult is only funny and cool if you're 12 and if you're 12 you probably shouldn't be driving

I will have you know I am young and hip and yes it really was a stupid question. Being young is no excuse, you do not need to be old and wise or even particularly smart to figure it out. I have never watched jeremy kyle and there's no reason for me to put much effort into my comments, I can type them with my eyes closed and they'd still turn out with better grammar and making more sense than yours.
Multiple means "more than 1" and I say "multiple multiple" because you posted multiple threads on the same subject and did so on multiple subjects i.e. 4 threads on 2 subjects.
Might I suggest you take a chill pill and put the shovel down?
