I usually find Audis about as interesting as a plain piece of paper, but I love the mad RS estates. I managed to watch Fifth Gear with the new RS4 on, that looked fun, the RS6 would be epic.

Again Audi continue the tradition of looking far better than their competitors (compare to the new E63AMG and M5). However, the thing that always set the RS6 apart for me was that V10. Obviously, the new engine is no slouch, but I'm starting to feel depressed about all the >8 cylinder engines disappearing. The day that Aston-Martin, Lamborghini, and Ferrari drop their V12s for some small-displacement V8 will be a tragic low point in the history of humanity. frown

On another note, 560BHP from only four litres is astounding! eek

Seriously loving Audi's designs!
I know Audi's are common but I've just seen my 5th Audi r8 in 5 days!

I thought the last pic was of the RS6! The Audi range really had merged into one shape...

Far, far, far too flash. Impressive figures indeed but the look-at-me styling coupled with the hideous ride quality strongly suggest that those figures are meant to be bandied around in pubs rather than used on the roads.

Shame. The Audi of the '80's and early '90's could have so easily have gone in a much better direction than it did.

Oli.
Well the show cars tend to be a bit glitzy and I agree the bright red paint, black wheels and quattro grill are a bit much, but in a nice dark hue, with regular alloys and no quattro grill (it's optional) I don't think it'll look overly flashy at all.
The power is outrageous and will no doubt be used as pub chat ammo but at least it'll have a fighting chance of using all the horses with 4WD - unlike the fun but flawed AMG monsters.

Not sure where you got your info on the ride. There are no cars in the UK and journo's haven;t driven them yet. Sounds like some lazy sterotyping to me but happy to be proved wrong if you do indeed have some first hand experience?

That RS6 looks amazing. I'd buy it in that exact spec.

Sadly it's not. And CH agrees. He reckons the C63 is better (unlike 5g) and I think I judge his opinion more valid when it comes to driving experience.

You seem very sure of yourself.
I've acually driven an RS4 myself. If you keep the suspension set to 'comfort' and the engine/gearbox set to sport then it drives superbly.
I've also driven a C63. Great engine, wonderful noise but the rest of the car was a let down. Wooden brakes and the whole car felt really heavy and cumbersome.
Ok I wasn't sliding it around hairpins like CH but I doubt many people buying these type of cars will.
So, in short I disagree with CH on this one. Perhaps CH opinion is not definitive. Perhaps there are others like me.
Just a thought. wink

The RS3 is also going to have to be a LOT cheaper next time around.
why? it was very cheap as it was

spec'd R Golf was 42k an S3 was 39k so 42-44k for a reasonable spec'd RS3 was a bargain

IME (having not driven a C63 to compare)

Engine isn't really fast enough for the RS brand. In fact I don't like the engine that much at all. The current V6 S4 with the Supercharger feels more interesting. Feel through the wheel was too "artificial" for my tastes. Not a fan of Quattro either. And that inherrent problem with Audi for me, the wheel is too low for me to be truly comfortable. Even dropping the seat to the floor. It's not quite right.

Engine not fast enough! - blimey how fast do you need an estate car to go? Did you try the launch control? I nearly lost my dinner the acceleration was so brutal.
I really liked the N/A V8. It was fun wringing its neck and the houl at 8000rpm was awesome. Obviously you prefer more low down torque which is fair enough but I think the turbo diesels do that pretty well already. Horses for courses I guess.

What did you make of the ride of the new RS4?

All the settings to me seemed to have subtle variations ranging from really stiff and unpleasant, all the way to up to undriveable. Maybe its the roads round my way, I don't know. Put me right off.

Admittedly I had to keep it in comfort mode on the lanes around me but I really didn't find it a problem. I thought it went really well. I certainly didn't find it any worse than a 991 2S I had for a weekend. I guess it depends on what you're used to.
