New car dealer has lost keys
Discussion
I can see why she's pissed off.
The garage said the car would be ready, the garage screwed up.
I would hope the garage would be offering some sort of goodwill gusture in terms of full tank of fuel, or some marketing merchandise at the very least.
I'm not sure of the laws on rejecting cars.
It's possible Pug have some sort of in house guarantee where you can reject the car if everything is not 100% fine.
But, rejecting the car may be an over reaction.
Assuming she test drove different cars then decided she wanted this one it would be silly to reject this car and choose a car she liked less.
However, If it was me I'd be demading they give me a date.
And an agreement that if it's not ready by then I'd get a discount or a release from purchase.
I wouldn't really want my first experience with my brand new car to be a bad one. It would sour what is supposed to be a good experience, and it might mean ypu never managed to like the car.

You can't reject a car without having given the dealer a chance to fix the problem.
On a used car yes, but on a new car you don't.The same would apply to paint defect btw.

Above all else, I don't see what benefit rejecting the car would provide
If the keys arrive tomorrow, she could theorectically have the car straight away, if she cancels the order, she then has to either
A) find another dealer, who are unlikely to have the same spec of car in stock in the colour she chose, so she'd have to wait, or
B) find another car she likes, but surely there was a reason she chose the Peugeot in the first, so anything else would be her second choice
Either way, she's no better off

Surely if they don't change the door locks then there is a security issue? Albeit a much lesser one as the car couldn't be driven with the old keys.
How?Someone with a set of random Peugeot keys is going to go around trying the door locks of every Peugeot they see on the off chance that the keys they have will open the door?
Right.

Do they also disable the old remotes/transponders when they're coding the new ones? Whenever I'm picking up a rental, I normally find it by walking into the area where it's meant to be parked, holding the keys up, pressing the unlock button & seeing which car responds...
Yes. A car can only have 2 keys coded to it. CarlT said:

The old keys would be de programmed from the car so not an issue
Personally I would get down there and ask to see the car to make sure it's not down the body shop having a new rear quarter

They've broken it, haven't they?

Really? So why can all Ford and Mazda vehicles using the PATS system have a maximum of 8 programmed?
No idea - I was only basing it on my experience. CarlT said:

I have been fed a pack of lies before then, bloody lorry drivers always telling tales
Surely they dont just leave them all sitting in the compounds with keys in them guarded by a single sleepy idiot and a barrier? I rarely see anything like decent security in most places.
I beleive that at the port compounds they only remove the keys of the csrs that are on the outside and ends of the rows, the ones in the middle car not be taken as they are surounded.Surely they dont just leave them all sitting in the compounds with keys in them guarded by a single sleepy idiot and a barrier? 'You' can reject a car after it's been collected if you have a good enough reason, not sure if dealer losing the key would be one of them though.
There is a good case here of the dealer simply orders another set, at the end of the day there would be 2 keys to your car out there somewhereGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
