Interesting having a 206 next to it - it seems to be quite compact really.

LR seem to be developing two quite distinct model streams. The Sport, Evoque and Range Rover on one side dealing with the urban SUV bit, and the Freelander, Discovery and new Defender on the other dealing with actually driving in a field.

Using the same platform as the L405 saves considerable weight. This is bare shell weight not whole vehicle weight before our friend starts spewing bile about JLR 'lies, lies, lies' rolleyes
It's actually the compared weight between the old V8D and the new V6D which has broadly the same performance (0-60) as the old V8. The current V8D definitely isn't 300kg lighter than the old V8D, but it has considerably better performance.
Like a man in orthopaedic shoes, I stand corrected. wink

I don't care how little it weighs, there isn't anything sporty about that!
Similar power to the old 2.7 v6 diesel in a lighter vehicle with a million speed gearbox?
Similar headling bhp figures maybe but I'd be interested what their comparable torque curves look like.

Whilst I really like the Range Rover, I don't know if I could bring myself to spend £70-£100k on a car that appears to be everywhere.

If it's the right car for you, and you like it and can afford it, then buy it.

How on earth would you know if you have never even driven it. Talk about keyboard driver.

Will sell by the '000s. Not for me though! They are no where near as comfortable as the full phat L402
Errr...... Because I have had one on demo for the last 3 days, Hunters are trying to sell me one! so, no not a keyboard driver!!

Like it or not, I think it will happen. I'm not sure many RRS will be sold witha IL4 2.0ltre, but I can certainly see it happening in the D5 when it eventually comes out.

Interesting to see they are introducing a 2.0ltr option. Maybe they will be giving it the 188bhp engine used in the Jaguars.
That's a 2.2 in the Jag. Maybe it is the engine that the new XF will have in 2015/2016?

Saw that car going the opposite way of me driving home in Luxemburg a few months ago... Passed it too quick to get out the camera though.

What's the ride like compared to the existing Sport?

Completely different, I currently have a L322 and thats so much more comfortable, in the back of a Sport, they are just too hard and short in the leg!

Are we talking about on-road or off-road ride?

Not possible. No one outside JLR has driven the new Sport yet. Perhaps you mean an L405 (Full Fat RR as everyone here likes to call it)?

This does seem a tad confusing. I'm talking about the NEW RR Sport which Trusty claims to have driven!

I can absolutely, catagorically say that he hasn't driven the new Sport. He may well have driven a 2013MY (which confusingly means 2012) Sport, but the 2014 Sport won't be shown until New York, and press drives will be a good few months, at least, after that.

Not everyone!

He's obviously been lent a demo L405.

That's still a Full Fat RR, not a Sport is it not?

Proper Range Rover, not Sport, yes. New Sport is L494 and given it hasn't even been unveiled yet it's not very likely a UK dealer has a demonstrator ...
