Lamborghini Sales Increase 23 Percent In 2011 (March 2012)

"The core growth drivers included further increase in deliveries of the highest selling Lamborghini of all time, the Lamborghini Gallardo, which recently exceeded 12,000 units of production, plus sales of the newly introduced Aventador."

Lamborghini Sales Up 30 Percent In 2012 (January 2013)

"The sales growth over 2012 was driven by the first full year of sales for the Aventador (922 units) while the Gallardo confirms its status as the most successful Lamborghini ever with an almost stable performance compared to 2011.

A total of 1,161 Gallardos were sold in 2012, adding to the tally of more than 13,000 examples delivered since the car's launch."

So the Gallardo has averaged 1300 sales per year since its introduction in 2003, and ten years on is still very close to that number. Meanwhile, the company as a whole has seen sales growth of 60% in the last two years. I think I'm going to tell you you're wrong, Chris...

G
This.

Chris - you're usually (often) on the money with your observations, but this time you're wrong. The Aventador is one of the best looking cars ever (probably one of the most important factors for those shopping for a Lambo), and the sales are apparently reflecting this.

Your reaction to the new Lambo at the motorshow was almost contemptuous and I'm wondering whether Lambo have upset you in some way.....

yes But essentially irrelevant now the show is over. A cheap way for Lambo to get some publicity amid the McLaren and Ferrari launches.

The small section of the market the Veneno is aimed at has more money than sense/taste look at the other products these people buy. The main criteria for them is price, if only a select few can afford a product great they become badges of their wealth they are certainly not bothered if it represents good value or is indeed tasteful. I accept if you buy a 458 or an Aventador etc it also reflects the purchasors wealth but I contend the criteria leading up to purchase in this sector would be more than just price. As to buying as an investment surely it would make more sense to buy a classic of similar value. Having said all that I would have a Pagani Zonda 760 RS in a flash! or indeed any Pagani.

It's a weird move - and I don't understand.

I liked this - in a strange way:

Sesto Elemento looked too much 'it's what we already have now'.

I mean: let's get really outrageous.

This was 1967 - and stunning then as it is now. This developed into the Espada.

maybe stick to Aventador and make some variations - and go from there . . .

I posted these thoughts on FB after I got the remaining chunks of corn and carrot out of my keyboard (there's always carrot in vomit, isn't there?) after seeing a picture of the latest Lamborghini Egads (or Engorge, or whatever the hell it's called):

"OK, that's it. I've had enough of the bullsh** surrounding Lamborghini and their place in the market. Bullsh** about hyper-thrusters and bat-wings and all sorts of other "styling" affectation; bullsh** promulgated by certain Clarksons among others, which seems to have infected the brains of the marketeers at AudiGhini. WELL BLOODY STOP IT! The absolute best Lamborghinis are the first versions, the purest versions of the Murcielago, the original Countach, and, possibly the prettiest Italian car ever, the Miura. Lamborghini go to ste when they start tacking on flares and wings and other rubbish, because it shows an obvious desperation ref the age/relevance/competitiveness (whatever that's worth) of the product. That sort of crap is the vehicular equivalent of a fifty year old in a nightclub. AND THEN THEY START BUILDING SODDING CARS MADE OUT OF FLARES AND WINGS! ARE YOU BLOODY KIDDING ME!?!? This looks sh**, the Veneno looks sh**, and if you think otherwise you are a gormless tt who should be banned from assessing anything ever again."

Now, am I wrong?

So what your saying is, the gallardo is such a classic and accomplished design lambo haven't had to update it every other week like that fashion-of-the-moment brand at maranello?

Why? For not much effort (they've already sold all 3, no doubt making a slim profit) they've stolen a huge chunk of PR buzz that McLaren and Ferrari have been building for years now. Is the Veneo a rival for a P1? No, but it gets people talking about the brand.
Well indeed - I mean fair play to them. But I just mean to be stood amongst your peers and basically be offering an existing model in a posh frock, when all your competitors have produced awesome technological showcases - I mean it's great they sold all three no problem, but personally I'd be embarassed.
I saw the egg as being on the other 3 faces... they all spend ma$$ive building nextgen hyper-ridici-cars then at the grand unveiling lambo steals thunder with a project khan makeover, surely back at lambo HQ they're probably still rofling as we speak? "Did you see their faces muahahaah" I've never thought of lambo as taking themselves anywhere near as seriously as the other 3, so only they could got away with it, although in spite of that the performance stats for the aventador are hardly lagging. It's not like they're trying to distract from an inferior product.

No, what I'm saying is that they are certainly capable of stunning designs, but they are all too given to getting carried away with rubbish-looking stuff like the Venereal and the Egads, probably because the designers can't kick the marketing idiots out of the studio. The original Gallardo was a great looking car (same as the Murcielago and the Aventador). The updates they've given it over the years have only been semi-successful I reckon, and it's painfully obvious that it is out of date, but stuff like the two most recent abominations aren't the answer.

That's true of most hypercars, no? I like the the Aventador and F50, but I'd never want to actually own and drive one in public.

But with emerging markets being most important to luxury car makers (than our old Western markets), our sense of taste will become less important. Someone said this above somewhere, I think.

Check Lambo sales figures: they are doing well.

What they should do is present us with an awesome Countach concept - as clean cut as the original and brought up to todays standards:
