If the Fiesta ST being 'only 3 door' is an issue, go for the new 5 door Clio RS. Only about £3000 more and as price is not an issue......
Bizzarely only sold as 5 door in the US
And equally bizarre that Renault thinks a 5 door Clio RS will be a winner.

The 5 doors is not so much an issue. Many people have families and 4 doors is really desirable. In that context, so might an auto but only sales will tell. Renault are obviously re-targetting their market. I would cerainly like to have seen a 5 door Fiesta ST Mk6 and this one too, with a manual box and a traditional handbrake.

It's not all about ultimate handling, it's about enjoying the drive but also being able to reach the seat belts, get the kids in and being able to open doors in supermarket car parks.

Just on the doors front, I dont think the Clio RS will gain more buyers than it loses. It now dips out in so many other areas that might have swayed a buyer with a 3 door preference.

The Clio RS is getting some disappointing reviews in the press.

More good reviews for the Fiesta though:

Verdict: The best fun you can have for the money. The ride is jiggly and the cabin isn’t as good as some, but this is the best of this year’s B-segment hot hatches and it’s two grand cheaper than its rivals. If you like driving, this is what you need. Why would you pay more for less?

Telegraph rating: Five out of five stars.

I agree but I'd still want 5 doors. We have a Mondeo and a Fiesta ST Mk 6. We try and avoid the Fiesta with kids because, yes, it's a lot smaller, but it's also annoying with only 2 doors. If I could get away with a longer car (parking issue), I'd shop it in for a 5 door in a heartbeat.

Our experience of Renaults has put me off. They have always been a bit rattly and buzzy. My wife has had a Mk7 Fiesta and it was better built.

The Clio normally trumps the equivalent fast Fiesta but this time round it may be different.

Agree, I would put money on the Clio nailing the performance and track times, but the Fiesta will spank it on value, fun and driver involvement. Overall win to Henry F.

EVO magazine, the great supporters of Renaulsport have now given their verdict on the new Clio 200 Turbo in a comparison test and it’s a bummer of a result. Just like all the other scribes group tests.

Compared to the Mini JCW, Fiesta ST, 208 GTI and even a Juke Nismo it came an embarrassing 4th,

It couldn’t even get around Bedford circuit the fastest. 4th again and that was with the Cup pack. Well beaten all round by the Ford. Even the 208 GTI was quicker to 60 mph with no launch control and the Pug impressed the EVO team much more than they expected.

The Fiesta hit the spot and came first overall.

Gearbox and weight was a big Clio issue. Renault claim 1204 kg, but it tipped the real life scales at 1294 Kg...... The Fiesta was just 1193 Kg.

Renault needs to listen to this sort of feedback. Many have been saying for a long time they have seriously screwed it with this new Clio RS.

If the next Megane is just a new Clio RS type clone, then Renaultsport has seriously lost it. Sad times for enthusiasts.

Why? If there are still good cars on sale does it matter who makes them.

Apparently so, but then there seem to be a lot of Reno fanboys on here.

To be honest, having had a couple, they [Renaults] are totally overrated anyway, whatever the age.

Frankly speaking, Renaultsport can easily make leading hot hatch with sportier Gordini edition, but this is pretty disappointing. And why the hell Peugeot cannot make tail happier 208 Gti(even with non switchable stability control), they would rule again.

You can't deny that RS Renault owners are a little more precious about their cars motorsport and performance creditials, whereas fords are traditionally driven by people from essex with a wife called sharon.

This is true.

I just live elsewhere with another woman.

I'll let someone with a longer beard than me do the motorsport thing, but I will just mention RS500 (the proper one), Escort Cosworth (only built to homologate) and the MK1 and 2 RS escorts.

The Juke. It was a bit of a wild card inclusion and the photo shoot wagon.

True, but this is now an end to the traditional Renaultsport fare.
