RE: Ford Fiesta ST: Driven

1,163kg - good work... I'm sure the new Clio will be substantially above this (previous generations were 1,220Kg I think?).
1163kgs seems to be the EC weight, ie with 75kg driver and I think the Clio is 1279 kgs EC so a 116kgs difference is significant. And amusingly, that's 10% of the ST weight...which is only 10% less powerful (if you ignore the overboost).
Less weight means more lateral grip though, and better mpg...

My thoughts exactly. It kind of renders the Focus ST a bit pointless unless you need the space. Although with 20% off the Focus price...but then again the brokers may offer similar discounts on the Fiesta !It might look even better in black too.

The two cars that would stop me buying a fiesta ST would be the focus ST and the Focus Zetec S which has the same motor, more space and benefits from the same ability to be taken to 200hp by mountune.
I'm not certain of prices but even if you take the Focus ST out of the picture the ZS would probably suit my needs more.
I definetly want to drive a fiesta ST as I'd love to see how much better (or not) it is than the Puma.
With the conditions of overboost, it is actually very hard not to have 200 PS available when pushing on.I'm not certain of prices but even if you take the Focus ST out of the picture the ZS would probably suit my needs more.

If Mountune charge more for a 200 PS version it's a con.
It's a shame that the power output could not just be claimed as per the US version as it would avoid all of the confusion and inevitable inferiority complex to the likes of the Clio/Peugeot.

That said, if anyone can triumph in this market it is Ford, since Peugeot seem to have largely given up on the segment and lost their way with the 206 GTi.
If I had a pound for every time I heard this... I would have a tennerDrive one. They are a hoot in all their lift of oversteery glory!

As I was hoping. Great news. Everyone needs to buy one and send Ford the message that this is what we want!
Really! Each to there own but 'if' I ever go back to a hot hatch it could never be a Fiesta, not a Ford at all. Looks wise the do nothing for me, interior just looks awful... I acknowledge they are good cars but nah... Doesn't speak to me at all. All IMO, not questioning why other people buy them.NGK210 said:
Nice review.
Considering the current vogue for hatches with hideously over-sized headlamps and gopping grilles - new Clio, 208, A-class, et al - IMHO the ST's front-end isn't bad.
Not keen on the chintzy cabin. And it's a shame that, similar to the Focus, the front wheel-arch design vs the rear's creates an illusion that the rear wheels are smaller than the fronts (when the car's viewed in profile)
But hey, 10 years ago, who would've imagined that cars like the ST could crack 0-62 in 6.9secs and have an NEDC combined of 47.9mpg. Impressive
Don't expect to get that MPG from this car...Considering the current vogue for hatches with hideously over-sized headlamps and gopping grilles - new Clio, 208, A-class, et al - IMHO the ST's front-end isn't bad.

Can someone explain to me why, here in 2013, cars seem to be designed so that this guy doesn't need to take his hat off when driving??
...
Because they are designed to cater for the widest possible cross-section of customers:...

Thanks, I have definately seen Mountune ST's with rear drums. I remember thinking at the time, wtf ? I know that Ford don't seem to like rear discs on their cars, but this confused me.
The previous Fiesta ST definitely had rear discs. If the car you saw didn't, it wasn't an ST. The Zetec S had rear drums.JimboSmith said:

No it wouldn't- steady-state available power is much more indicative of a car's performance than peak-available-for-a-short-time power. If I bought a car based on the max only to find you're 20bhp down after 23-odd seconds I'd be a bit narked!Anyway, people have been doing this for decades- e.g. Audi S2. Although they got around it by stating torque on overboost rather than power.

Thats going to seriously problematic when it comes to pub power chat - "yeah, its 180PS in the spec, but really its 200PS when I need it. Even though its 180.."
Surely it gives you an extra few sentences to add to your boring rhetoric?
Why don't they just give you 200hp and be done with it? Cheap Turbo's?
