I don't know much about either Honda or Mercs, but reckon they tick the box!

The Merc does, yes, although that generation is notorious for rusting and the condition of the car is perhaps cause for concern. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265776767769?hash=item3...

The Civic doesn't, at least doesn't quite. It's fairly obviously modified, at least to those who can remember what normal ones look like. It has been lowered quite significantly and there have been alterations to the bodywork at the rear. It's subtle, but it's not trying to look like a standard issue car.

The definition has been so narrowed to basically a standard slow car with 500bhp that no minor deviation if styling seems to be allowed.
You cannot stick a load of extra power into a car that is not designed for it without modifying it to some degree for safety at least.
That Civic has a spoiler and has been lowered yet it's not quite a sleeper even though it's the archetypal old persons car and it's running 260bhp? bks. If you came up behind that you'd just think it was some crappily modified students car before it sodded off up the road.
I'm probably one of the biggest critics of supposed sleepers.
So, the Merc, almost, though the wheels and tyres fill the arches a bit too much for a car of that age.
The Honda, almost, the rear ride hight is a bit too low, ignoring the tyres.
I have been modifying cars for over 40 years though, so not your average person, but even I would probably be surprised by these.

I wouldn't notice that civic is modified.
It does look a little off but the rear plate just makes it look like an import, very common for jap cars that age and those civic saloons weren't all that common so if you told me it was a standard Japanese model I would have no reason to doubt it unless I took a real close look and saw the brakes.

Is always a bit worrying when you see someone go big power and standard brakes on a non performance car.
I’ve got just over 500bhp in my Impreza and have upgraded to big discs and AP racing 6 pots. I saw the same model with similar power for sale the other day on the original brakes.
They couldn’t cope with the abuse as standard let alone regular stops from much higher speeds
Only matters if you use the performance on the road. I’ve got just over 500bhp in my Impreza and have upgraded to big discs and AP racing 6 pots. I saw the same model with similar power for sale the other day on the original brakes.

I've noticed that as I get old, I use my brakes less. Taking my foot off the accelerator pedal a little bit earlier, seems to work well. My brake pads last ages.

This. Calling that Civic "obviously modified" is absolute pedantry. It does look a little off but the rear plate just makes it look like an import, very common for jap cars that age and those civic saloons weren't all that common so if you told me it was a standard Japanese model I would have no reason to doubt it unless I took a real close look and saw the brakes.
Nobody other than the kind of weirdo who spends their day examining every car they pass would call that "obvious".

That EG9 is in fantastic condition. Quite rare to see a supercharged B16 in it too, most of the fast ones you see have been K-swapped
Yes, a proper rarity, that JR charger is super rare on it's own, never mind the rest of the car.You can probably remember when Kadir took his B16 out and put in a K20, that was a very expensive swap at the time!!

I don't think it looks lower, the real wheel looks a bit funny in the arch probably because it is lower but doesn't necessarily look lowered
Maybe it would be a bit more or less obvious in real life
If you look again you can see that the front looks lower as well, it looks like it has 4 fat blokes sitting in it!Maybe it would be a bit more or less obvious in real life

It's only "obvious" to the tiny population of car bores.
Pistonheads.com...probably no car bores on that site PH represents a minuscule slither of the population, but so many people here assume that Joe Public thinks the same way they do.

So do you think it looks like its at a factory ride height?
