Have a Mercedes W124 300E Twin Turbo that is quite a good Q car, 315BHP and stump pulling torque. Also have an E-Type 2+2 in the barn with a Lister 5.8 V12 with 6 twin downdraught webers. My old Saab 900 Classic Turbo surprises a few modern cars as well.
Please tell us more! I have a standard 300e!

I love a sleeper.

I like to think my current car is a sleeper, with its grandad image and type r engine. But in reality, it's not nearly powerful enough.

Funnily enough, not 10 minutes ago, I said to the Mrs, that if I won the lotto, as we wouldnt need it as a family car anymore (due to the XF S sportbrake), I'd take the car to AG motorsport or the like, and pay them to spaceframe it and get Nissan GTR running gear and full sorted suspension etc as a track/road sleeper.

It's an aerodeck vti btw, recent SOTW.

The lister engined e type sounds epic.

I once got quite literately left at the lights by an old VW camper on Worthing seafront.
Luckily no one was around to see it as I was in my S1 106 Rallye!

By the time I got to 3rd gear I gave up, I reckon it must've been hiding a tweaked Porsche lump as it nearly wheelied off the line! Impressive none the less!
Hi mate, I know a few guys with fast campers. They all run tuned aircooled VW motors and are quicker than any Porsche/Subaru conversions. Key 'autotechniks vw' or 'alex4057' into youtube smile

A few years ago, my wife got properly trounced by a 1980's Audi Quattro (she was driving her S4 V8 at the time). Posted about it on here and the owner turned up do the custard test.

His car was properly quick. My OH was wringing the nuts off the S4 and he just plain drove away from her. It was particularly good to watch his whole car squirm with torque when his Quat came on boost...

Chimaera 500.

Looks like a normal Chimaera 400, but it has the engine of the mighty Griffith 500!

Quite fast.

My BIL owned an Escort RS Turbo years ago that had been breathed on, mental fast albeit an absolute death-trap with piss poor brakes etc. He often took on motor bikes and had them give up ...

Here's a video of it doing 0-60mph in 2.74 seconds.

http://youtu.be/yvJUzmAcNPo

It's a bit less discreet now with a proper roll cage, different wheels and more power (circa 650bhp) but has done a 9.9 second 1/4 mile, which is bloody quick in anyones book!

Did a 9.5 @ 144mph a couple of weeks ago. Doubt there is another sleeper, that IMO can be classed as one, that is as quick as this

Richie Webb has one that could be. Street legal and regularly street driven beetle with a proper, genuine lump of aircooled flat four VW metal hanging out the back (yes an original VW Crankcase!!) Now displaces 2.3 litres and has a turbo, which is all nicely hidden from view. Car has run a best of 9.23 in the 1/4 mile and is driven to and from the track.

Look at it, it gets driven regularly on the street and then can pull up to the track and do that!! Only clues would be race number and rollcage (which is covered when roof is up) smile

My Vectra C 2.8 v6 Turbo was a great sleeper.

It was an Elite so it looked very sedate, could even have been a 1.8 with its hidden exhaust pipes but it was 250bhp & had masses of torque.

Same engine as in the VXR but mated to a 6 speed tiptronic box ......with sport setting biggrin

My 51 year old Beetle is sub 5 seconds to 60. I wouldn't say it's a sleeper though as it's lowered at the front and has different wheels on it. Although it's a heck of a lot more sleeperish than some of cars posted on here biggrin

I keep on looking at the cossie mx5 in the classifieds, needs to be cheaper for me though.

is it perhaps the same one that was at Prescott for the Retro Rides gathering?? I think the clatter and whistle of the turbo would give the game away!
