That could well be true - I am extremely picky with my electronic products as well, so even minor flaws on things like this irritate me quickly when I know there are better solutions that are easy enough to implement for a successful company like JLR.
I'm guessing you don't have an iPhone; the system works flawlessly with my 3GS model, and too with my wife's iPhone 4S? The screen is 'laggy', and it's infuriating trying to get back to a random selection of songs from an mp3 player if you've played an album or artist, but aside from that it's fine. In my opinion, anyway!

I'm doing a lot of trials on the new system at the moment and it's leaps and bounds better than the current system.

iP4 and iP5, neither have worked right.

Any idea when it's coming in? Good to know there's something in the pipe. smile

Just spent 5 days in a 2.2D Luxury XF, travelled 1,800 miles whilst my XJ is being serviced (I've dragged out the use of the loan car so that I can get a good feel for her). This ones got the full 200 hp and at no occasion does it feel wanting for more. I feel the chronological measurement of the accelaration is misleading, especially when you look at the dials and it tells you you're already travelling at 80 mph.. Its a very civilised car this XF, despite its 4 cylinders, the ride is excellent and the handling and grip I imagine up there with the best. The handshake for me is not a problem, by the time you press Start and click your belt in to place she's ready to go. The HMI is a tad frustrating, slow especially when compared with the Audi A7 I rented in Lindau last week, but easier to use then my previous 5 series. The car is very impressive, an American colleague of mine could not beleave the turn of speed this 4 cyl car allows, sprints from 70 to 120 very quickly and refinement is top notch, with its natural gait around 90-95mph... Would still prefer the 3.0D S, but then who wouldn't, but I would not feel short changed if I had to spend three years in it the 2.2. I achevied 38 MPG, at 43 MPH, filled up three times.... and I'm impressed, Rather this then my MD's A6 2.0 TDi or my previous and hugely unreliable 5 series, which Mr Plod left me at the side of the road on average every 3'00 miles or so...

The Mrs has an XF and her 'phone (Galaxy S3) re-connects to the Bluetooth most of the time but it has had the odd wobble.

The HMI is a bit laggy for my tastes but certainly on the usable side of things. Hers is the 2.2D luxury with the least powerful engine and whilst it could not be described as fast it is by no means slow. The 2.2 with 200 odd BHP would probably be about for the use the car gets.

It looks a decade old car already and not a "rakishly handsome" one at that.

Oh but it's a Jaguar and this is a British website. Journalists abroad appreciate its handling but it falls well short everywhere else.
Are you everyone's favorite benz lover incognito? If so, welcome back, it's been kinda boring without you. smile

The only question i have is "WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG" !!!

Around here you can hardly move for premium line Tourers/Avants/Estates etc. How it's taken JLR 5 years to get around to making an XF estate boggles the mind ;-)

Fab looking thing too, i just wish they had polished the powertrain and handling a final 10% to get level with the Germans

It's very nice looking, had a mooch around one when mine was in for service. Still prefer my saloon version.

Very happy with mine and glad I didn't join the beige brigade of Audi/BMW tbh.

I said it on the other thread and I'll say it here too - the infotainment system is the worst bit about the car. It's clunky and slow to use, the screen feels too small for the layouts, and it doesn't have simple features that the Germans have (e.g. It doesn't automatically reconnect a bluetoothed phone that's been out of range). .
I know that Chris Harris had a similar grumble when he was running an XF. I was hoping/ thinking this had been fixed with some new firmware by now? Is it still a problem even with new cars? Having your phone bluetooth connect automatically when you get in the car should surely just be a firmware thing?
I've only experienced it with a similar-age one to the one Harris tested - no updated software at the last service a couple of months ago though!

It's a small detail, one that could easily be fixed with a software tweak, but the real issue is the hardware behind the thing. It's just not up to the task, it even struggles rendering the screen transitions etc as it's so outdated. For a system that you have to use for everything except basic heating/stereo functions it's quite frustrating.
I've had no problems with phone connection - iphone 4 & 5. Also, you get used to the slow screen, and once you have, it's not half bad.

Are these coming with the AWD system seen the X-Type estates?

That's a shame.

I'm liking my current Audi Allroad, but preferred my previous XF. I do have enough need for 4x4 to rule out an XF Sportbrake without it, and it is part of the reason that I got rid of my last one.

I also know the Allroad never really took off like Audi hoped it would, so can understand why Jaguar don't think there is a commercial case for it. Just a shame from a selfish perspective.

Best looking estate on sale. I remember using the HMI in 2007 and thinking it was laggy then - glad they are updating it shortly.

Not driven an XF, but seen one struggling for grip on a motorway in cold weather, and snaking out of control across all 3 lanes.

I will never forget that experience.

According to Autocar Jag have been fibbing about the performance on offer from this car:

Autocar said:

"It seems churlish to complain about a two-tonne estate car that can crack 60mph in a shade over seven seconds. Still, anyone paying £50,000 for an express load lugger should expect it to be pacey – at least as fast as its maker says it is, and ideally as fast as anything else for the price.

According to our timing gear, the hottest diesel XF Sportbrake is neither of those. It took a second longer than Jag’s 6.1sec claim to sprint to 60mph and 18.4sec to break 100mph, the latter being less than a second quicker than the 228bhp E350 CDI estate we tested in 2010. Bet your bottom dollar that a 535d Touring would do it in little more than 15 seconds."

I note PH mention in the article that it doesn't feel very quick either, the issue for Jaguar is the Germans tend to do their performance numbers on the road as well as on paper.

60 in over 7 seconds is more like 525d pace than 530d/535d pace.

Depends on the road conditions really. But who really cares about 0-60 times. It's the overtaking skills that the XF really scores in. I love it!!

The difference in 0-60 between the XFS and the 530d/535d will be the same for the 30-70mph measure as well, i.e the Jaguar will be once again out matched, so I'm not sure what you mean.
