I'm really partial to the sound of a straight six - like ripping silk when they are good but I did like this oosted in another topic recently

I drove mine for the first time in 6 months on Wednesday. Tunnel, window down, bmw straight 6, cold air induction. There are better automotive sounds, but not in my budget. Not even close.
I got rid of a cold air induction kit and went for warm air feed

Another vote for the merlin, particularly "that" sound it makes in the last 5 seconds.

Complete nutter, I've seen a video somewhere of the engine mounted in a chassis of sorts and him driving it along farm tracks.

I think that one is actually a Griffon - the noise is slightly more course, and its a late model Spitfire with the bigger nose and d-day stripes.

More merlin magic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYOgsgnZ8dw Just an incredible sound. Can you imagine a mass survival scramble at the Lincolnshire bases eek The howl is awesome.
I am old - and lucky- enough to have seen a such a scramble- four at once and the noise was like the end of the world...

I was at finningley for the silver jubilee, there was a scramble of Vulcans and Lightnings that was incredible, the ground shook under my feet.

I have been lucky enough to witness the space shuttle take off. A sound and feeling I have never got close to matching. Epic biggrin

The sound when you twang a plastic ruler overhanging the edge of a desk, then move it further onto the desk to change the noise! Best sound ever lol smile

Was I the only one expecting forests and gravel, rather than a race circuit with some tyre barriers on it?
