RE: Jaguar XKR-S GT
Discussion
Another "track" Jaguar...
I still think of Jags as being about "grace, space and pace". And whilst Jaguar has a wonderful racing heritage, the classic Jaguar racers had a grace to them, possibly because they were designed to be racers. (And possibly because aerodynamics weren't quite so complex then.) This, however, is not graceful.
It looks like a car designed for one job being asked to do another. Which, for a $170k, suggests compromise and therefore devalues it and Jaguar.
At least the F-type is coming.

After a quick search, 97k for a standard S, wings would be around 3k painted and fitted, suspension changes are hard to price up, but get some decent carbon frame seats for 2k, roll cage for 1k fitted (rear cage like the 911 RS), pull any weight out possible (sound deadening, audio/visual system, airbags, etc), buy a big gay wing for a few hundred and a remap would be quicker and cheaper than the production version
Bit dissapointed it's not a lot more track focused inside as previously said (and I hate that steering wheel - the XJ one is much nicer - but suede is nice)
Think it looks good on the outside but they should have some gaudy 'gt-only' colours complete with gaudy vinyl (GT3 RS in my mind). Glad this is announced as I saw a different car at work the other week (GT just different colour) and was praying they'd actually make it! Good on them
They just need to give us a budget to do some endurance/GT racing proper now and I'd be a happy happy man

These really are epic, wonderful cars.
I have been lucky enough to drive some decent metal, but I must say when I drove the XKR-S for the first time I was really shocked at how much I liked it.
I have since been on a couple of Jaguar driving days at Thruxton and driven the whole V8 range at some speed.
The V8 5.0 supercharged engine is an absolute classic. A very very good engine which , frankly, if it had turned up in a Ferrari everyone would rave about it.
These cars are not as competent, not as complete or talented as others, such as the 911, but I think they bring more enjoyment.
A regular Racing Blue XKR-S will suit me fine.

had a go in one in that colour, it was epic. The noise it makes it surreal. Whilst the performance was electric, it really didn't strike me as a car to take on track, more just a rapid attention-seeking cruiser. So sticking 'GT' badges on a less-GT version seems a little odd to me.Sidenote: XKR-S GT - anyone else starting to think the alphabet soup is going the way of bike manufacturers? XKR-S GTRS-RR Supersport anyone?
or just go for an XKR and this:

Which seems to of been the inspiration, for the rear wing at least.

THAT I approve! A big fk off wing, with a big fk off V8 out at the front, and most important of all, a load of st removed from inside to make it lighter. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/motorsport/...

Jaguar's first carbon-ceramic brakes. Can't be cheap to design and test. Adds to unit cost A LOT on a low-run car.Just one example. Low-run cars are always ridiculously priced because of the ED&T costs can't be amortised across many units. That's why a lot of manufacturers just give you a different coloured bonnet or some st for their 'special' models.
