RE: Chris Harris video: Renaultsport Clio 200 Turbo
Discussion
Good video Chris and I can empathise with the mish-mash of thoughts you said you had about the car at the beginning. My thoughts (as a very happy Clio RS Mk2 owner):
1. Looks okaaay, they're growing on me slowly, but it's not nearly aggressive enough.
2. Comes across as fun to drive, whether it's more so than the old 200 is debatable.
3. Even as a staunch manual 'box fan, I think the idea of paddles could be scarier than actually having them.
4. Playing engine noise through the speakers is arse.
Most of the above has been said before of course, but when my cheeky little 172 is up for being replaced, I'll drive both this and the outgoing NA 200 and decide then. I would be surprised however, if I preferred this new one over a 200 with the Cup chassis.

Hmmmm, I think I want... an abarth 500 please.
I have an Abarth 500...and he said the Clio has a good ride.Much as I love the Abarth, the ride (especially on 17s as most of them are) is somewhere beyond utterly dismal. Abarth 500s are keeping Osteopaths up and down the land in work!
That said, I do *slightly* prefer the aesthetics of the Abarth...although I think I shall have to have a look at the Clio as well...
I'm happy to hear they've fixed the suspension.
I've spent a reasonable amount of time in the back seat of a Mk4 Ibiza FR fitted with budged coilovers that were wound all the way out and with the helper springs removed.
Comparatively I've spent a reasonable amount of time in the back of a Clio 200 Cup. The Clio's suspension was by far the giggliest suspension I've ever experienced. I found the seat belt would slowly tighten, click by click until it was ridiculously tight and then every bump was filtered directly into my shoulder. It hurt.
The new Clio comes across as a toy. Albeit a very good one, I would have fun with the Forza/Vbox style display but I'm a little irked at it at the same time
I doubt it was possible but I'd have liked CH to have spent a day with the car, slept and then tested/reviewed. Sleep helps clear the mind and maybe those thoughts wouldn't have been as jumbled

As a big hot hatch fan and someone in their mid 20's this car still does nothing for me, I don't doubt it'll handle we'll but its ugly as sin and doesn't look special in the way a hot hatch should look special. The Renault Sport cars are supposed to appeal to the enthusiasts, and to me this doesn't.
And now I want one, thanks Chris. Yellow, with cup bits please.
One thing that Chris said, about having a spare left leg to do some left foot braking struck a chord. I think if I had one, I'd be much more inclined to learn more about left foot braking, as you wouldn't be constantly stabbing between the clutch and brake. I've played about a bit in the past with left foot braking (albeit more in RWD cars) but would definitely be more interested in playing with the balance using my left foot in this car.
Bravo Renault!

What a surprise Chris Harris thinks it's great when everyone else thinks it's a pile of arse. He's really trying hard to like everything isn't he?
I guess happy car manufactures mean more advertising revenue for PistonHeads...
Electronic steering - crap.
5 Doors - crap.
1200+kg - crap.
Loss of double knuckle front suspension - crap.
Engine sounds piped into interior because the engine sounds - crap.
Appearance? subjective but I think it looks like a Seat MPV - crap.
The Autocar review is spot on. They've ruined it and compared to a GT86 it's a pile of crap.
