Being 18 i cant insure much thats fast so was thinking about a sleeper project.

As a project it wouldnt be on the road so could take 2/3 years to do if i wanted.

Was sat thinking about a MINI one with rb25det with a 4wd tranny.
Everyone hates the new mini right?
Funny to see one fly past with 400bhp, right?

Theres the slight issue of the components being physically too long for the car :/

That was my first thought, wasnt sure if you could have a shorter driveshaft for the rear?

From just a few quick thoughts this idea tongue out

Have all the tools to do it, got some of the skills. Im a aprentice mechanic so learning more.

So disgarding the rb25det due to length, what about the sr20det from the pulsar gtir and its 4wd?

Some inspiration;

Citroen C2/ Mitsi Evo hybrid

Good luck getting anything modified insured at your age though.

By the time im 20/21 it shouldnt be anymore than i pay right now.

Paid £2700 last year for a 1.8 tddi focus, £1800 this year for a 1.3 cherry turbo.

Dont think it would be too bad.

Surely it'd be much easier to fit the AWD from the Countryman, the mini engine, but wind the boost up?

With a quick bit of googling mini engines wont go over 250bhp. sr20det are easy to get 300 without worry of breaking anything, as well as easy to get parts for and guides for things.

Oh ok - I though you were saying you couldn't afford to insure a fast car, so you were going to build a fast car... but now I understand that if it's a project for a few years then it makes more sense.

Errrm what ?

Forged bits, bit of head work and a decent aftermarket ECU with supporting fuel mods, you can see any HP number you want

Could also be used as a track car if insurance is still too much at 21.

Yeh but once your at that stage for similar money on a sr20det you would have more bhp.

The initial cost of buying a mini with a fked engine would mean money saved for a sr20det and box?

Not saying this is happening but it was a idea.
