Doesn't it just have a regular 722.6? That's a pretty strong box if the fluid is changed. The V6 is good too. Good Luck
There will be rust and don't expect it to drive particularly well. There are better cars about for the money IMO.

Motorways ! I live in Devon guess I best stick with diesel option
There is no diesel CLK of that generation.I wouldn't dismiss a V6 petrol engine outright - it will surely depended on your annual mileage for any potential savings.
ps. the 3.2 V6 diesel engine in other Mercedes of that generation is a good engine, however it is not especially fuel efficient - 40mpg on motorway runs.

I posted above that I mite save up some more penny's and look at E class diesel circa 03 plate I quite fancy looking like a taxi driver I wouldn't dismiss a V6 petrol engine outright - it will surely depended on your annual mileage for any potential savings.

Early W209 CLK diesels aren't too much more than comparable W211s:http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/merce...

Yeah, but an extra 40k on the clock....http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/merce...
So many people on PH claim they can get early/mid 30s mpg 'on a run'. I've had a quite a few largish engine petrol cars, I would love to know how they do it. If I were buying the car in the OP's original post then I would be thinking 25 on a run and probably 14 - 17 mpg around town.

Not highlighting any particular car - just price low: high. A W211 diesel (E-class) would be about £300 cheaper than the W209 CLKs at the same mileage. So many people on PH claim they can get early/mid 30s mpg 'on a run'. We have the 209 3.2 v6.
You can just about squeeze 32/33 mpg on a long motorway run but its like pulling teeth.
On average expect mid to late twenties, around town its very poor, 23 if you're lucky.
I love the engine and box, smooth and refined with a bit of go about it. Personally I would need to have a better interior, but as has been said, its less than 2k.
From what I've seen some cars have rust. What X-reg cars don't?
