I've noticed this trend increasing quite recently, in the last week or so around Manchester I've had the displeasure of seeing 3 or 4 of these abominations vomit

I stumbled upon this gem of a company whilst browsing the classifieds:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/dealer/7218...

I'm quite familiar with these cars, as a family member used to own an SL500. Now if you want to improve the appearance of your car, by all means do it, but why ruin it by mis-badging it, sticking on stupid FRP bodykits, and Halfords aftermarket tat wheels?

The ironic thing is that anyone in the know would know that a real SL65 Black has a fixed roof, and therefore the roof wouldn't be split into 2 sections, and those who aren't in the know really couldn't care less...

Take a look at their appallingly designed website, one SL in particular has exhaust tips which look like scaffolding pipes hehe

I guess my question is, what kind of idiots buy these things? confused

I actually think those SL's look nice, n the FFRR. Better fitted parts than some I have seen.

Well, the important thing is that the motor has been upgraded. It looks a lot like a Black Series, and it goes and sounds a lot like a Black Series. I guess the idiots who buy them are people who want to go fast for not a lot of money? Doesn't seem so idiotic to me.

I agree, when done properly, they look nice. However they'd be better off doing an SL63 replica as they actually came with convertible roofs, fit original wheels and don't scrimp on the details such as fitting genuine facelift rear lights and a proper exhaust.

I'd imagine these conversions lead to a fall in value of genuine SL65 Blacks?

As above, they are indeed very nice cars, fast and comfortable, however, if you're going to 'do' one, do it properly.

I would doubt that.

Is it just me or are the wheels a bit misaligned with the wheel arches? Doesn't look quite right to me.
