So, neighbour ding donged on the door last night, to have a bit of a whinge about where Mrs CK is parking her car "as it makes it difficult to get in our parking space"....It doesn't, it's just that said neighbour is so woefully bad at driving they need a football pitch to park on.
In the interest of anything for a quiet life, I politely agreed that we'll keep Mrs CK's motor out of the way, but at the same time suggested Neighbour could make things easier on everyone by utilising their garage (which is, unbelievably, empty)
The reply put everything in to even more perspective.....
"Put it in the garage?! My driving's not good enough to get it in there!", delivered with suitable laugh

I'm surrounded by fkwits.

Well, in fairness, I'd struggle to get an average sized car in an average garage in this country.

Great Britain: The country that builds (or more likely doesn't) houses with gardens too small to swing a cat, garages that are too small for a car and bedrooms that are too small for a bed.

Well there is that, except the garages round at our place are mahoosive. I can get the Defender in mine, and still open the door fully, to the stop.
The silly moo two doors down just can't face manouvering in to the garage.

I knew a guy that had a Porsche 928. He'd squeeze the car in then pop the tailgate and clamber through and out of the boot! biggrin

Yeah, I'm feeling this.

I had a new build home with a double garage and getting both cars in and opening doors required "care". One was reversed in the other straight in.

Have now moved, quite a central location but we've got off street parking. we put both cars on the drive.

Amazingly, on a Sunday night as regular as clockwork, some c**t blocks the drive to the point you cant get a car off the drive.

As parking goes it's pretty impressive. last weekend saw me go to the community hall and "find" the driver and get them to move their van.

Surely there's a law against blocking access to the highway?

I have this with family members that refuse to park on my drive, even though I can swing an estate on there in one go?

My mother in law managed to scrape the sill of her toyota aygo on my garden wall, and it takes my other halfs sister about 5 shunts to get it on properly, and she drives a suzuki alto. I can't watch and have to look the other way when they turn up. I really don't get what the issue is.

Then tell your neighbour it's not a problem for you and wifey will park her car in his garage, problem sorted.

I drive a small fiesta and it will not fit in my garage. If it somehow did I'd need to climb in and out via the boot!

Elise and previously 3 series BMW in a mid 70's garage, no problem. It looks tight but perfectly doable. My mum however refuses to park her Nissan Micra in a similar sized garage.

Depends if you're lucky enough to have double yellows outside your house or not.

This is my old house and a different chunt used to block my drive almost daily. I called the council about it and they weren't prepared to double line the road and said people could park legally as per normal single line rules. I don't know if that was true but in a nut shell, neither the police or the council gave a sheet.

I gave up in the end and blocked my drive with my own car. That clearly miffed someone in the street as it gained a few scratches.

Thats not realy blocking the drive if they are not over the drop kerb.

Tha answer is, yes, it is illigal to block a drop kerb. My mums house is inthe town center opposit an indian restaurant. There are always people blocking the drive. The police can do something, even to the point of removing the car. The only problem is that it is not a priority for them (understandably) and, being an indian, it is normaly Friday and Saterday nights she has the problem when they have to deal with other things.

Nobody puts their car in their garage anymore. Garages are for far more important and expensive things, such as chest freezers and tumble dryers.

On the subject of poor driving, do yourself a favour and don't go on the motorway.
