Any idea why so many of the cars are on what looks like trade plates?

In fact two, the GTR and McLaren are running with the same plate.

Great photos!

Yep, that's the best I could come up with too. I think I'd admit defeat and go with an FD2 at that sort of money!
Don't think you'd feel short changed with either tbh smile

Agree! 20k for a really nice one might even seem like a steal further down the line.

Thanks! So, you need to pay First Registration Tax (a % of the list price or market value) on any previously unregistered car in HK. Are you sitting down...?

Private cars:

(a) on the first $150,000 (GBP 15,000) = 46%
(b) on the next $150,000 (GBP 15,000) = 86%
(c) on the next $200,000 (GBP 20,000) = 115%
(d) on the remainder = 132%

Motorbikes are a flat 35%

So, as you can see some owners choose to 'opt out' of paying the tax by driving their cars on a trade/dealer plate - this is obviously only allowed as a dealer moving a car from one location to another, so if caught then there's a chance to incur penalties.

Thanks

So a car worth £200,000

Would be taxed at £240,800?

Criky.

Yeah, so for example here's the Lambo base price list inc. that pesky FRT:

Urus $3,695,430 up = GBP 369,000
Huracán RWD Coupé $3,598,915 up = GBP 359,000
Huracán RWD Spyder $3,980,000 up = GBP 398,000
Huracán Coupé $4,180,000 up = GBP 418,000
Huracán Spyder $4,480,000 up = GBP 448,000
Huracán Performante $4,880,000 up = GBP 488,000
Huracán Performante Spyder $5,380,000 up = GBP 538,000
Aventador S Coupé $6,680,000 up = GBP 668,000
Aventador S Roadster $7,280,000 up = GBP 728,000

It ain't cheap being a Petrolhead in HK! Also, not quite sure what the transport department do with all that revenue. The roads are rougher than a badger's arse.

Nobody asked for this (and I am starting to dust off my flame suit), but it's almost guaranteed that some of you enjoy two wheels as much as you do four. So, we thought we'd share with you some of our other photos that we take when doing car images. Not a massive expert on bikes to be sure (although my photog partner in crime and I have owned a Monster, W650 and an R6 (the one with gold wheels below), but based on my pretty slim knowledge I think that some of the stuff here ticks some boxes. Anyway, enjoy a little coffee break away from Hong Kong cars.

The Evo? Love them! There seem to be so many back on the roads here now. I saw four during one afternoon just passing near my work. You used to find them abandoned in the countryside in bushes and stuff. I think now the value of Japanese cars has gone crazy, people are recommissioning them - that's how it seems anyway. If you like them then in the coming weeks there will be some more photos smile

Hey, long time since the last post, but there is a car I've discussed on here before for sale: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

It seems to be for sale in HK, if anyone is interested in a RHD uniquely colored SE30. It is the only original Diablo SE30 in orange. Last time I saw this car about 7-8 years ago it had SV wheels on it, now it seems to have different ones.

www.28car.com and just search for 'Diablo' it's the first result. Yes I know the site looks shady, but the pictures are real. Lots of sites from that part of the world look like they were designed in the mid 90s and haven't been updated since. I am unable to link directly to the ad because the site does not seem to change URL when clicking the ads.

I have no affiliation with that website or whoever is selling the car, just thought someone might be interested.

That website's giving me a headache banghead after just two completely random clicks though I ended up on a red EWB Phantom. I have a vague memory of a press release from a few years ago where a hotel in Macau ordered 28 or 29 identical new LWB Phantoms, heavily customised. This is definitely one of them.

Link to it here:
https://dj1jdjkadk.28car.com/pic_pop.php?h_cat=sel...

https://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/30-rolls-ro...

Again, no idea how I got to it but I found all the cars listed, ranked from high-low price.
1. Senna (HK$7.98million) - https://dj1jdjkadk.28car.com/pic_pop.php?h_cat=sel...
2. New EWB Phantom (HK$7.8m) - https://dj1jdjkadk.28car.com/pic_pop.php?h_cat=sel...
3. 599 GTO (HK$7.58m) - https://dj1jdjkadk.28car.com/pic_pop.php?h_cat=sel...
4. Lexus LFA ($6.88m) - https://dj1jdjkadk.28car.com/pic_pop.php?h_cat=sel...
5. Aventador SVJ (HK$6.9m) - https://dj1jdjkadk.28car.com/pic_pop.php?h_cat=sel...

So, I moved back to England. My partner in 'prime' (lens joke - ouch) is still shooting the car scene in HK, but I am here in Blighty now. Now on with the interesting stuff...

Some HK highlights in the weeks after my last photo post back in August...

And some photos taken around the Big Smoke yesterday. Many of these may be pretty pedestrian to you guys, but having not spent much time in the UK during the last 20 years, they all hold some interest for me...

Oh, and I got over to Thruxton for a little track day. Here are some shots. Maybe a PH or two here?
