RE: Jaguar F-Type: Six or Eight?
Discussion
My 2p worth (having driven nor heard either, and being the current owner of 3 V8's, one n/a, one turbo'd and one supercharged):
30kg difference does not seem much to me, and as a driver of limited ability and
Noise is subjective. The noise is one of the reasons I like V8's so much, but I can understand those who prefer 6's. I have heard neither F type, but I would guess I would prefer the 8.
Most importantly, not everybody finds most enjoyment in wringing a car out all the time. There is much fun to be had in riding a wave of torque, burbling around at a few thousand revs, knowing that there is much more in reserve as and when needed without having to change gear. Even when pressing on, the throttle is not an on/off switch, and I get much satisfaction from balancing the pedal with the grip and only unleashing the full length of travel from time to time.
The main reason for the 6 is cost. Is the 8 really worth the extra- quite a lot in this case?
But by the time these drop low enough for me to seriously consider one, the gap will be much less. Low mileage means the difference in running costs would also be small.
