Expensive, expensive expensive - oh look my residuals are tanking like every other Jag does in the short, medium and long term...

Sorry not for me as a new car. Though second hand there is a chance, once inevitable massive depreciation has made them value for money.
I only hope that Jag sell lots so that I can hop into one for £20k in 3 years time biggrin Looks stunning!

Just like Porsche in fact.
True but the £13K in your pocket if you choose the 981S instead may cushion the blow...

Next year we're also going to get a coupe and a manual box.

I'll take a V6S coupe with a stick shift, please. smile

A Jag with a six-pot... It's just so correct isn't it.
Couldn't agree more, shame it couldn't be a straight 6 these days. Ah well. And 380 bhp has familiar, right-sounding-ness too...

Why is there so much weight difference between the V6 and the V8, don't they share the same basic block?

It would have to be the V8 for me as I'm not a great fan of raspy sounding engines. The V8 noise sounded incredible in the Evo passenger ride video.

How can a V6 and a V8 share the same block? They need different numbers of holes! hehe

If you can afford 50-100k on what will probably not be the only car in your household I would imagine you won't be TOO bothered if one car is 15k more or less than the other. You are going to get the one you like the most.
If jaguar have massively overpriced then they won't sell any. Everyone said the evoque was (is) overpriced and they are everywhere.

There does seem to be a price bashing thing on here against anything which isn't a Porsche or a m135i. The 4C copped it, and promptly sold out, and now it's jaguars turn. Maybe people are getting bored with their Porsches and fancy a change? No-one slates a cayman s at 50k plus with options for being no faster than a M135i which is 20k less....

Anyway, roll on a hardtop V8 manual f-type for 80k, wonder how that will fare against a new techno style, driver along for the ride, 100k plus 991 GT3

By not sharing the same block.

I assume you mean they share the same block design as in materials, cooling channels, bore spacing, etc. And if that is what you mean, then there's your answer. There is simply less stuff in a V6. The only thing that wont scale roughly linearly with the number of cylinders will be the ancillaries. I can easily believe that lopping the front 2 cylinders off the engine, along with all the associated bearings, etc., plus down-sizing the ancillaries can drop 30kg from the weight.

As far as I know they share the same basic block. It's unusual/interesting, I'll give you that.

yikes You mean there's actually two empty cylinders on the front of the V6?!? That would be really weird.

I'd imagine that in both cases you'd see a large piece of plastic and not much else.

Interesting post. Although maybe you can afford a £50-100k car BECAUSE you're bothered about a spare £15k ? The 4C was a very small run of cars so I guess they priced it cleverly.

I've always said that the M135i made the Cayman look expensive but not because it's as quick (in a straight line), but because I doubt it costs that much more to make. But then again car pricing is based on what people will pay for something rather than what it costs to make. I have no doubt that the Jag will sell quite well, there are emotional purchases after all, which is a good thing.

Shorter heads and smaller supercharger.

Plus some of difference is non engine parts.
