What happened to my tyres??!?

It would be good to discuss this directly with Dunlop. I'm sure they would appreciate the feedback with real-world test results and their conclusions would be most interesting.
I suspect their conclusions would be "we only claim the tyre is good for 130mph and you've been going faster than that so we don't care". kambites said:
I'm not aware of anyone making a winter tyre with a higher speed rating than that,
Continental WinterContacts are V rated on my BMW.OT - PH will you be attending the Sports Car meet at the Brno Autodrom weekend of 11-12 May? Normally a good day out.

Lucky you didn't come to any greater harm if you were regularly exceeding the maximum speed rating for the tyres!
I suspect there's a fair margin for error in the ratings in terms of the likelihood of catastrophic failure. I can't see the manufacturers cutting it too fine in case they get it wrong. kambites said:

Thanks. Will check them out. Am tempted by Brno if I am around. Race at Brno quite a bit for various races. Slovakiaring this Friday in case you are there - look for Kumiega Racing.OT - PH will you be attending the Sports Car meet at the Brno Autodrom weekend of 11-12 May? Normally a good day out.
