Last night, for some reason I weighed up the running costs of the MG ZT against a very cheap lease car, and it got me thinking, are there any fun/decent cars out there that don't cost the earth to run.

Take the ZT for example, I reckon tax, insurance and maintenance costs me about £1100 a year.

I paid £1350 for it (1.8t with 60k mile).
Failed its MOT and cost £390 to sort out
Insurance is about £180 a year (classic car policy as it's not a main car)
At the minute I'm putting about £50 a month of fuel in it, so that brings total running costs for this year to around £1450

When I weighed it up against a cheap lease car (C1 or Citigo) the ZT still came in as the cheapest to have, and obviously more fun to drive than either of those lease cars.

So my question is, what cars are fairly cheap to buy, cheap to maintain and still be fun/half decent, i.e. you wouldn't look like a rogue driving around in one.
