plain & simple...which one is better in your opinion - the Focus ST or the Golf GTI? Have you owned one or both of them?

I have an ST3 estate..it does everything I need, it's great fun to drive at a price i'm willing to pay.

The new golf looks to be a good car too...I'm sure most people would be pretty happy to have either.

When you get down to the details there is probably little between them.
an ST3 estate...????

I've got a GTI Edition 30 I love it.

I've got a friend who had a mountune ST he loved it.

We both drove them back to back and we both wanted each others cars.... So I would say they are on a par, with slight plus points depending on your preferences.

Which one, of either persuasion?

What do you value or not care about so much?

Money sensitive, not, or don't care? (same goes for any perceived image).

Etc

Anyone's opinion really will vary on that kind of thing and some, even if an owner of one or t'other.

I made the choice for a Mk5 Golf GTI over a MK2 Focus ST. I preferred the Focus for the brilliant engine, but ultimately chose the Golf for the better economy (coming from a diesel!) and probable better depreciation, although they have also lost quite a lot of value!

I am considering a MK3 ST though - they seem great value.

The depreciation thing is a bit of a red herring when you look at English pounds spent. Wouldn't surprise me if even the fuel consumption thing is somewhat overplayed.

My friends mountune ST was rubbish on petrol compared to the mk5 GTI. The newer gtis are even better on fuel ~40mpg on a run.

Not very good at parallel parking ?
haha not that but just think the focus ST should be a hatchback not an estate
