It's a linear relationship between temperature of phase change and temerature. Trust me, you can boil water at any pressure as long as the pressure is correct.
Fixed that for you !!

No you haven't! winkwink

FWIW. We have an EGT sensor on the racing car (BTCC car) with the dash setup to display the readout whenever the car comes to a stop. We wait for the EGT to drop below 500 Celcius.

If I've been called in at the end of a full bore lap it takes a minute or two, if I've had a steady lap in it'll likely already be well below 500 by the time I stop.

If I have to switch the engine off when it's hot (like after I've binned it while on a full bore lap) then I will get billed for a Turbo rebuild otherwise the (leased) engine supplier's warranty is void.

Although it's not specifically the EGT we're interested in, it gives the best idea of what sort of temperature the Turbo is at, as if it's off boost at idle it'll be adding heat to the exhaust if it hasn't cooled.

Bearing in mind that although the boost levels aren't huge, these engines are run absolutely full chat for extended periods, relatively big power output, and the turbos are pretty solid if run within the certain parameters. I've heard of our particular engine running 24 hour races at a typical boost level.

Out of interest,
what engine and what level of boost are you running.... What turbo also..?

Swindon TOCA engine (rumoured to be a GM block but I couldn't say for sure), runs a Garrett Hybrid Turbo by Owens (same as all BTCC cars), no idea what the level of boost is as we don't touch the mapping. Probably in the ball park of 0.6-1 bar judging by the open figures last year.

I agree, but in the context of car cooling systems, you will not get "steam" in the system without a pressure leak.
Pretty much all engine cooling systems have a carefully engineered pressure leak that operates at about 15 PSI or so...
