Saab Aero.

250bhp, more rapid than you'd think. Vast. Cheap.
I'd recommend a Saab 9-5 estate too.... (But ours is only an SE smile )

How about a Ford Mondeo estate?

I've had lots of estates, and people carriers/MPVs, and some premium badges, but a Mondeo does 'family' really well.

The ultimate family car in my view is a Ford S-Max, but that won't be within budget. Apart from the extra seats, a Mondeo will do the job just fine.

That is lovely, would buy that in a shot. I couldn't find anything like that at the time and ended up with a top of the range 2001, 2.5 legacy with all the toys, 52,000 miles and a shot air suspension for £1800. Think I would go for that over what I have though, always wanted a 5 series, even though the 4x4 has proved amazing when going hunting and firewood collecting in the snow. The omega got stuck a few times.
Is that the Legacy in your pic above?
