Hi - I have done a search and can't find a clear answer.
I have just sold a private plate and I can't find a clear answer on how to transfer it directly to his car? Any ideas?
I also have a new plate to replace the one I am selling, can this be done at the same time?
Thanks
Mark

I think you may as well stick your old plate on retention with the buyer as the Nominee. Then do your new number after that is sorted.

Fill in a form V317, to transfer the plate you've sold, there is section for the donor vehicle (your's) and the recipient vehicle (his).

Fill in the details of your car (and it's current reg etc) on the retention, or certificate of entitlement, and send it at the same time as the V317.

I usually add a covering note explaining what I am wanting to achieve, to avoid doubt eg

Reg 1 from car A to car B
Reg 2 from retention onto car A

As above don't bother sending the paperwork to your local DVLA taxing office, they're not dealing with transfers anymore they send them on to Swansea, so send to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DS.
