They're a fantastic car. Mine was fantastic...

Common Mondeo issues are rear subframe bushes wearing and needin replacment, and clutch/DMF as its expensive..

ST220 specific - mine was fine, nothing went wrong at all. I was put off by lack of part availability and was one of the reasons to get shut.

Big end bearings can go.. Which needs a new bottom end, which aren't readily available from Ford.. They're silly expensive when they are.

Daft stuff like alternators are on back order.. It's not really uncommon for one to go so they should be available.

It's easy to forget about this when you drive one though, they sound fantastic!

The ST220 standard wheels are nice (pain to clean mind), but poor quality & prone to corode badly.

Are they thirsty? My Dad has a Jag X type with the same engine, and that's pretty thirsty. It is only 5 speed and 4wd so I expect the ST to be better.

We've had our estate ST220 for about 4 years or so as a workhorse. Its bloody brilliant. Not supercar fast by any stretch of the imagination but frugal(high 20s average) and some lovely poke.

Issues. Well there are the rear door rust issues but easy to solve, other than that not much. Everything you hear can happen to these can happen to any ie nothing particular to this make or model. The wheels are fantastic but can corrode but so can any, just keep on top.

Ours is a 5 speed, the 6 speed is going to be slightly better MPG wise but don't rule out the 5 speed. We are going to run ours into the ground as it simply does everything we ask of it.

Ours is now 11 years old on an 02 with 65k on the clock. Yes it has a DMF but try to find any sodding car these days without one. Eurocarparts for parts as they sell you the original OEM without the dealership sales counter Dick Turpin tax.
