Frustrating having to pay twice but maybe that's because no details changed so they don't consider it a renewal like moving?
Exactly - if the photo on the replacement licence was the same as the original, then the expiry date on the photocard wouldn't change.

Just a thought, I passed my test 8 years ago, but if I renewed my licence now then as you have to renew every 10 years would I have to renew again in 2 years, or would it be another 10 years until it would be needed to be renewed again?
Cheers.
To put this thread back on track...

...if you renew now, the photocard will be valid for ten years from the date of issue.

You can renew more frequently if you wish, for example, if you are vain, have a facelift, and don't like the photo of the 'old' you on your license wink

Every time you renew, you must pay the fee in effect at the time.

The easy way to do it is to go to a larger Post Office. They will take a digital photo of you, take the fee, and return your old card to DVLA. There is no risk that the photo will be rejected as the staff on the counter will compare your photo to the relevant rules governing 'true likeness' etc. Some time later the new card will arrive in the post. Job's a fish.
