Another £20+ into the fking DVLA machine.

Has anyone used the post office service? Does it work out cheaper than using a photo booth? I don't have a passport so can't do it for free using that.

I actually cant be arsed updating it at all, but it expires next week frown

digital camera, cropped on the pc to the specifications on the form and printed on an off cut of photo paper left over from something else.

It was well into the second week and possibley third when I got the new licence through

I used the post office, it was fairly painless.

Think I just had to pay the DVLA fees and nothing for the picture etc... though I cant quite remember.

Saves faffing at a photobooth, get it all done in one hit.

I recall not being able to use a credit card to pay because "the dvla wouldn't allow it." Unsure if it was actually the post office or DVLA being tight gits but I should probably be angry at one/both of them.

DVLA turned it around in a little over a week which was surprising.

Only just realised that mine expired in 2011!

Can I get a new one while living abroad?

Really? This worked?

I've got about 20 sheets of photo paper here, might try it, using the power of iphone smile

It's £24.50. The only advantage I can see of using the PO is that they check that the form and the photo isn't done cack-handedly, so it won't get rejected by the DVLA.

I know it's only £20 every ten years however I'm still so glad that I have my trusty paper licence, the less money the DVLA get out of me the better.

On a side note, got my daughters passport renewed, it came back in a week and half and I did it all myself i.e. I didn't use the Post Office service.

yep, a little fiderly on the cropping as their specifications are both for overall size and the size of your head in the picture, so not something to do if you struggle to post a pic on here, but ok if your mildly capable with processing photos which if you have the photo paper you probably are.

I don't quite agree, though I do think the advantage you suggest is a pretty bit one. Another advantage though is you get it all done in one fairly painless hit, saves faffing a photo booth or worse having to get a bit Art Attack with a photo, printer and photo paper. Got mine sorted in a few minutes on lunch smile Guess it depends what you prefer, but I would definitely use the PO again.

Though in a decade when I need a new one, hopefully there will be an even better way...

You can renew the driving licence photo online - https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence

It's £20, and if you have a recent passport, it can automatically import the photo from there, so no photo booths.

No post office queues, no hassle, just complete it online and it turns up a few days later.

EDIT - just seen you don't have a passport - apologies, didn't read the post.

Yeah, my old flatmate had that problem when trying to give the DVLA money, she had to order a cheque book from her bank so that she could pay them!
