Basically looking into my next car, and think it'll be a VW GOLF MK2 GTD, and wanted to really do the interior up, i've seen some on google with seats from an Audi TT, a leather steering wheel and dash, a built in DVD player etc.

What's everyone's thoughts on these modified MK2's? Especially the interior?

Return on investment < £0.00

If you can afford to lose every single penny you spend on it.
And about 1/3 of the price of the car- as it will be unsellable apart to a niche few.
Then fill your boots. It's your car - enjoy it.

That's the reason I was going to look for one already done, but have had luck so far frown, Maybe that is the reason why.

Do you remember that TV show House Doctor.

And some couple were wondering why their house was on the market for 8 years without an offer.
You know the one. 200 Garden Gnomes. Electric pink wallpaper.
Thousands of Queen Elizabeth memorabilia on every flat surface.

That - is the motoring equivalent of what you are looking for.

You're looking for a Golf 2 GTD with a TT interior - I think you'll be looking a long time!

Just get a TT, it has the interior you want. It's about what's inside.

I wasn't aware there was a MK2 Golf GTD, unless its had a GTD lump dropped in.

Responses will vary from "anything at all non-stock is chavvy, you chavvy chav", through "think of the residual value!" to "do whatever you want, it's your car". So take your pick!

I go with the latter myself. Worrying primarily about resale value doesn't seem a very "enthusiast" trait to me.

You won't get the responses you want in this particular forum.

It's your car (or would be) to do with as you see fit. If your particular taste is for XYZ then go forth and do it. There are plenty of excellent trimmers and installers around if you didn't want to take on the work yourself. There are a good number of outfits around also for whom custom MK2s are bread and butter jobs.

Try places like Edition 38, Club GTI, The Phirm, Voodoo motorsport, Car Audio security...

If you want stuff re-trimmed you'll find local companies who will do so for you.

Fitting seats from another car generally means cannibalising runners from the original seats or making brackets to make the new seats fit the mounting points in the car. No big deal.

VAG platform is generally interchangeable.
But - as above the market for selling on modified interiors is limited.
Money better spent on improving house. New leather sofas etc etc.

Why not spend the extra money you'd blow doing the interior up and just buy a petrol TT?

Well this is my S6 after having been to the Seat Surgeons in York:

http://www.theseatsurgeons.com/metadot/index.pl?id...

Seemingly a bit of a marmite interior. I like it which is all that matters. Some have said it looks a bit too busy. My sister had said it reminds her of a Balenciaga hand bag.

I actually had it done in Easter of 2012 and subsequently it seems very similar to the interior of the C7 S6.

Yeah they made a few of them, I've just got rid of mine! 1.6 Turbo diesel, mine had all kinds of modifications done, including a straight through exhaust (they're loud anyway) so it sounded like a tank! Quick aswell, mine kept up with lightly breathed on 16v GTI's upto 100

I had one too, with a bit of tweaking it was easily as quick as an GTI 8V over the quarter mile at GTI International - sounded very agricultural though. I kept it completely standard looking, even down to the steel wheel and a tow bar.
