Hi

Ph assistance required please! I have searched on ph and dvla website but still unsure.

I am buying a car which has private reg. An application for retention has been made.

Will the car revert to the previous (standard) number plate or will a new age and area related plate be issued. The Internet basically seems to suggest either is a possibility.

This is of importance as I would like to pick the car up on Sunday and the supplying dealer has been out of the country for the last week so cannot check his post. Can I go ahead and take out insurance on the old plate no?

Either is possible but 99.9% of the time it reverts back to
1st registered no.

Every time I have put my plate on retention, I have been given the original no back.

8 Times at a guess now?

Thanks both for the info.

Is relevant as the insurer I will use seems to offer lower quotes if the start date is greater than two days in advance. (So sort tomorrow to be driving the car on Sunday)

Insure it with the current reg regardless, then just inform the insurers when the plate changes.
