fastest car\lowest insurance group??
Discussion
I put alot of work into getting a quote and managed to get myself into a 200sx at 18 for about £1300 on insurance, thats with 1yrs NCB though. Wouldnt recommend jap turbo stuff for insurance prices, I could have gotten other stuff alot cheaper; interesting to note though that an E36/E30/E46 would be £2000+ on insurance.

i wouldn't have put myself down as the reckless type anyway, but it does make you think a lot more if you have no roll bar, anti lock brakes, servo brakes, PAS, windscreen, proper doors, crash structure, air bags etc. Because there is always something at the back of your mind saying "if you crash and roll, you WILL die, no question about it". Certainly makes you appreciate potential stopping distances and corner tightness/anticipation, conservation of momentum. Plus its more fun at lower speeds because you have no windscreen/doors and you are a LOT lower anyway.
but yes, if you want a fast car just for the sake of going fast (at the age of 18), then you probably shouldn't be allowed to buy it.
Think very carefully before committing to a kit car. You want experience gathering a car up with a chassis which reacts comparitively slowly to experimentation, such as a warm hatch or most cars over 1200kg. Light kit cars are cheap to insure but a high human cost if you bin them too, and tbh most young drivers do crash at some point these days, either due to hoonage/road reading or the usual stuff.but yes, if you want a fast car just for the sake of going fast (at the age of 18), then you probably shouldn't be allowed to buy it.
When I went the kit car route I went for a 200hp bike engined Mk Indy (500kg dry weight), and it still scared me and took all of my concentration to drive well, despite having two years experience on a 427hp skyline. Higher cornering G also means that you go far further off piste too if you lose control.
You also shouldn't think blindly about speed - something like a Volvo T5 (already mentioned) will be plenty quick enough while still being long legged enough to broaden your horizons, and being able to take your friends and plenty of kit is a huge plus when most other people your age will be squeezing their mates into crappy little hatchbacks.
