So, after a lot of hassle with my Golf GT, I am thinking if it comes back from VW again, with the same old "we couldn't find a problem", I am chopping it in!! But for what?

Shall I stick with a diesel, or go back to petrol? I am after ideas, and feedback about cars you own/had.

I am a bit of a petrol head, but drive 40 miles a day to work. I've looked at the new Golf GTD, but once bitten and all that. Looked at the Alfa Giulietta, Audi A3/S3, Focus ST, new Subaru's... I want something fun, and although the miles I do have to be considered, if it puts a smile on my face, I would consider getting more of a sports car. 4 door is good, but again, would consider a 2.

I know a lot has to be taken into account, but interested in what you'd go for.

Budget; late teens, early 20's.

Yeah, I looked at those, and I didn't think they looked very "plush" inside, didn't seem to get a lot for your money??

True, they are expensive for what they are, I chose a 3 series coupe over one.

I guess that a E90 BMW may do the job, or alternatively the new Volvo V40 (or V60 if you want a little more space) may do the job well smile

yeah, they do look far better than the hatch. If it does help friends have had them with very few issues and my dad has a 3 series with the 18d engine which has been faultless (besides being stolen).

If you want a bit of variety, the 20d engine is far more readily available and re-maps to 23d leves very easily. Other than that the 35i engine is a peach!

Thanks for the info! I will have a look, as there is a local dealer to me, who has always been helpful when I've gone there with my partner (his dad has a 98' 5 series). Plus they have a massive selection. Thanks again!

Anyone else got any suggestions? smile
