Ah dammit! Thought you were selling/knew someone selling it.

Looks like a winner for you, even if something disasterous goes wrong it would break for more than that.

I dont think I could view a vehicle owned by someone who spells mechanically like that...
Boot opens from key fob = tailgate rusted to death so keyhole no longer works.
its a 500 quid smoker- working bootlocks cost much more;)

jeez! moon on a stick chaps (i know I'm the same when bargain hunting!)

it'd do a turn and has to be more comfortable than a 500 quid fiesta!
I am not asking for the moon on a stick. Just saying what something should translate as and the seller should state if the rear lock makes it look like the car's got a dirty bum hole.
True, you can read many things into any ad- suppose the only ways to be sure are either see it or pass on itsmile

just stating I only posted it as an example of the type of ad I find that lead to the £350 one I bought a couple of weeks ago!

personally though, a rusty boot wouldnt put me off something with 10 months Mot for a weeks wages- if the car drove ok and had no obvious mechanical maladies and was structurally alright based on what I could see, then I could cope with the rust (although I know this model does love to rot!)

hope that clarifies the point I was trying to make.

cheers
Yeah, I understand - I'm just pointing out what a non-working boot lock probably means having experienced it on a similar age CLK. On the plus side, nobody's going to open your boot without you pressing the button!

On the subject of Mondeos, not quite a 58 plate... but;

I'm guessing the tax is the killer on this one.

Nah, tax is just the higher of the pre March 2001 rates, £230?

More of a worry would be trying to preserve the only known MK2 mondeo with intact bumpers in the UK.

Speaking of a steal . I may or may not have jumped head first and grab this for the large sum of £400 . All I know it's a 2001 , 2.2 , Auto , has wood and leather , indi history , includes the plate and is in desperate need of a clean! hehe

Might be a few weeks before I can get it .. gives me time to work out how to hide it from the wife and prepare getting it going , as I have no experience with BMWs whatsoever! Subarus? No problem , BMWs? All I know the battery is in the boot and it drives through the rear wheels.. that's it! hehe Advice greatly needed!!

Completely off topic, but the police turned up at my house nice and early one morning a few years back accusing me of buying a cloned car on the cheap with all sorts of snide remarks.

Image their surprise when I produced a few sets of keys, the logbook, the service book, a receipt from a dealer and the VIN number was all correct.

Turns out they hadn't read their call notes correctly - someone else had bought a car that was a clone of mine and they were supposed to let me know.

Didn't even get an apology.

My last E46 experience didn't go well. Having said that, it was all fixable for reasonable money, just kept breaking this and that as all the bits seem to be needlessly more complicated than you might expect. Still, I kept repairing it for anything from pennies to a couple of hundred quid each time for 3 years. The ABS sensors and also the ABS pump/ecu are, indeed, a pain in the arse. If I'd have paid £400 for it instead of £3k, I might have left more things broken wink

ETA: on the bright side, there are loads of great forums out there for these, e46fanatics for a start, and every single problem possible with these cars seems to have been sorted and posted along with DIY guides in photos and/or videos. You won't even need a Haynes!

Stand by for something to be wrong with the cooling system, I'd bet expansion tank or water pump.
Probably a broken window regulator.
I bet the rear left brake light will be out too wink

Aside from that, should be fine and fun!

There's something wrong - mate runs a fistful of 2.0 TDCIs as taxis and they easily do 300-350,000 before he considers dumping em ;0

Front LCA bushes (cause trolley steering)
Prop guibo and diff mounts (will cause a clonking when you lift off the power)

Both typical E46 issues, fairly easily fixed.

Good shout. At least it's on sensible alloys. Mine had the mv1 alloys which were staggered widths and 19 inches.
I'm pretty convinced that was the cause of a few suspension issues.

I'm on the hunt for a new bmw myself now.
