Unreliable? French? Naff design?

Sorry, I've never considered these cars nice.

Unreliable? Neither of mine were.

French? You're better than that, Mr Hoof.

Naff design? All design is subjective, for sure. But the XM is a luxury-sized version of the classic wedge, so whilst you might not like it, it's hardly naff.

Wonderful things for long journeys.

I rather like this 9-3 but I'm already itching for more power... maybe I should get it remapped, a fella in Sunderland apparently gets it up to 220bhp and improves the economy in the process. Will the chassis be able to handle that sort of power, though?
.
It handles it just fine in mine.

You'd be surprised by how much a decent pair of tyres on the front will help with a remapped FWD Saab.

If it were me, I'd wait until the fronts need replacing, then buy the best tyres you can afford, and have the re-map done at the same time.

That way, you'll be able to enjoy the fruits of the re-map, rather than get frustrated with all the inevitable wheelspinning and understeer.

PS: I've advised waiting until the fronts need replacing, as taking perfectly serviceable tyres off a shed-money car is a criminal abuse of the bangernomics code! laugh

I had my aero remapped to stage 1 by a chap near Nottingham. The chassis handles it fine. My tyre size is 225 25 17 Michelin Primacys - they're pretty damn good!

Thanks, this sounds like good advice.

The tyres have plenty tread left... suppose this gives me a good opportunity to save some pennies for two good ones and the remap.

220bhp sounds like a very useful amount.

How much will my insurance s**t a brick over it?

By French I mean that is the reason why it is unreliable. I'd never buy a French car unless it was as a fun car. In fact, given my experience of a number of German brands, I wouldn't buy anything European that had to be relied on.

Looks naff to me.
