Also not me. I hope it was a PH'er so we can see if it really is the bargain of the century.

my purchase last night - it doesn't exactly drive fantastically and the road noise is so bad I actually thought something was grinding until I went over a section of freshly replaced tarmac and the noise pretty much went, but with just over a year's MOT and £390 I thought it wasn't a bad buy while I build up the courage to join the bargists club:

Where did you find that?
I literally just sold one identical for £600 a couple of hours ago.

12 months MOT, 0 advisories and 60k miles.

Fantastic cars, super cheap to run and bomb proof.

I wouldn't disagree with that - however they do have a tendency to rot out around the rear arches!

Serious question - why would a dealer bother advertising that at that price? For a start he'd have to pay for the ad, and he could weigh it in for, what, £150? With no comedy-buyer coming back at him for all sorts to be sorted out within the first three months?

cars under £1k are free to list on AT, and spares/repairs cars have no buyer comeback.

And why they'd bother? Get more people looking at their cars? cant be much profit at £250.

It's the tax that's gonna be the killer on these bargain cars. 300 quid a year to tax that 195 car.

Unless you get a very boring car you'll always end up paying tax!

It's only £26 a month, and if it blows up you can just cancel your direct debit. Unless your buying £195 cars because that's the only money you have to your name, it's really insignificant.

Well, on the basis that you refuse to pay tax on a car that you paid less for, I won't be giving you a Bugatti Veyron. wink

Anyone more knowledgeable than me think this is worth a punt? Only fifteen miles from me. It's being sold by a breakers which raises alarm bells but if I could get it for 500 quid with a years ticket ... ? MOT history looks good - expired in December, but failed in Dec 2016 for all four wheels missing wheel nuts (odd) and an advisory for handbrake efficiency and then passed with just that advisory.

Got to be worth a punt, they say they'll put an mot on it too for the price.

If it works and go for a while then why not ? If/when it breaks sell the hardtop for 250 quid ? Sell the seats for a ton ?

Yep. I'd do it for £500.

I got £280 for a hard top in an awful colour. Could probably sell that windbreaker thing, too.

He said there is some rust on air intakes, no biggie, and has receipts for the head gasket being replaced not too long ago. Was about to say I'll have it....to notice it's an auto. Drat.

Now considering this:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/mg/mg-zt-2.5-v6-silver-c...

Failed an MOT in 2016 for "Offside Rear Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings sill (6.1.B.2)". No mention of it in 2017. Would this put you off?

Not if there was proof of the work being carried out to fix it.

Better to have shiny new bits on than rusty old bits from a shedding point of view - less to break!

They rot a little bit around the rear jacking points if moisture has been trapped there (becoming reasonably common). I had it fixed for £180 on my diesel one and it's been through 4 MOTs since with no issues - It's not an obvious repair & never bothered me until I sold the car.

Okay thanks. I asked the trader if they have evidence of sorting it out and also of belts / water pump being done as I understand that's an expensive job on these.
