Where did you find that?
gumtree, just kept searching everyday until something suitable turned up and hadn't gone by the time I called (a few things like a £400 523i went within half an hour of being posted)

Cambelts and water pump will set you back £700 at most places, so it's not as horrendous as most people presume. Mine's due this year and no qualms about getting that done - it's only two lease payments for my mate after all.

Have a good poke around the rear sill jacking points if you view it to see if there's a nice repair or a simple plate welded on etc...

Okay thanks. I asked the trader if they have evidence of sorting it out and also of belts / water pump being done as I understand that's an expensive job on these.
They are listing it as being only the 160bhp variant. You want the 190bhp ideally.
Looks tidy though and sensible mileage.

Ah didn't notice (actually still can't notice, where does it say this?) thought the 2.5 v6 only came in the 190bhp version! Agreed that's the one I want.

No mention of mileage, but this is the first one I’ve seen for ages that isn’t battered to fk. All the others I’ve seen on the road have flakey bumper paint, dented arches, proper banger racing territory. This one looks pretty clean.

It's a lot of miles but has very clean MOT history.

Looking at some of the st & prices on Autotrader I`d give it a whirl if i needed it, got to be better than something with a Cat marker for similar money!

Roughly £80 a month in the unlikely event it fails it`s next MOT.

Whats not to like?

I'm tempted, it's nearby, but that generation Celica doesn't get a good write up as a drivers car. Coupe Avensis basically...

I had one of the below in white,1985 vintage, bloody good reliable car & I think the last RWD model?

Worst thing was the uncomfortable seats, not unusual in 80`s & early 90`s Jap cars, same issue in a Honda Aerodeck I had too.

They seemed to struggle with people being over 5 foot tall!!

Looks very clean for £850, even if it needs a suspension refresh.

Really 'Occasional, slight Clonk from n/s/f' sounds pretty minor and commensurate with all cars this age. Billy bargain

I know it's on at sub-grand, but the re-map puts me off, and there's a scratch and a clonk. He lists the filters, plugs and pads as a positive but they were 2015-jobs. Cheap yes, and decent cars certainly, but the Holy Grail it ain't.
