Pirces are rising now after being level for 4 years.

A typical 20k miler now is around £38k compared with £33-34k in the past. I see it slowly rising especially lower mileage cars
Any examples of this?

I certainly haven't noticed them going up, they never really dropped much between mid-late 20's:

Problem with a 20k miler is you'd be too afraid to use it. A 50k miler you could keep for years as a weekend car and the value should stay similar up to 70-80k miles.

At £35k you have the Ferrari 355, 996 GT3, E30 M3 Evo, 993 C2S etc. The CSL is only 10 years old, not exactly a classic yet. The Germans wouldn't call it an Old Timer for another 20 years :-)

Funny how, like so many 'great's, the reception to the car at the time of its launch was lukewarm, but its desirability was increased greatly in the years since.

Glad to see the later CSL get the atention it deserves, but I think the heading picture came from SMMT day 2013, where the car was also available.

Why am I being a smart arse? Because it was a bit of a shock to see I exist. Never mind that it is me driving my favourite 10 year old BMW, a vehicle that works as harder than virtually any other in the Bracknell collection.

BTW: in the current BMW Car Club mag--Straight Six--Munich Legends and their cover picture make a persuasive case for buying E46 M3 now, as CSL so expensive and many thrashed to walking wounded.

Interested to hear what others think...
Yes i read the article. I was expecting a much longer article than 1 page.

At £30k plus there is a very wide choice of top metal to choose from.

For me, i remember reading all about the E46 M3 just as i was doing my A Levels in 2000-2001. And then unversity reading about the M3 CSL and M3 CS. I would really love a M3 CSL and would complement my M3 CS perfectly. Also would have both gearboxes Manual/SMGII :-)

I can only offer a personal experience of price rises... (I know Shimmy has a record of most that have sold over the years though so he's more qualified to comment)

However...In late 2010 I paid under 27,000 for a 38k mile example with AP's and warranty (a sub 30k mile standard car was going to cost me 29-30k ish) I advertised mine end of last year now on 49k miles and was offered just under 30k. Not a big rise but a rise all the same. Long may it continue. smile

YEs, plenty.

Not sure if they will continue to rise or just current interest has surpassed demand temporarily....but I think youll find now that sub 30k mile cars will strengthen slowly but it will be eyars before high milers start to gain much

When they first came out I saw one on an MCoupe meet and I remember thinking "what is all the fuss about?" But as I've got older I've started to appreciate it. It just looks so right. Just from being outside you know there is more to it that the look, then the engine starts, what a perfect sound - the air intake, the engine and the exhaust - all working together to orchestrate a sounds that will tingle your ears and put a smile on your face; no matter what mood you are in!

Fantastic cars and I love seeing them about - owning one isn't about saying look at me, it's about feeling at one with the car, it about feeling the vibrations through you body, feet and hands - each one telling you something different about what the car is doing. Cracking.

£20k for a 60k miler is still possible from a 'motivated seller'. Not so many people around with money to spend
lol. I'll take as many 60k mile CSL's you can find me @ £20k each - not fussy on colour either smile

A mate had two of these over a 2 yr period and was alway kind enough/stupid enough to let me drive them. What an amazing car. It was an angry snarling beast of a machine, so different from my ordinary M3.
A road trip to the ring and subsequent laps around the green hell will live with me for a long time.

I must have missed the point.

Weight? Power?

I understand they have a bit less and a bit more. But the cardboard in the boot kind of detracts from its "everyday" ability - what's the point?

Cars like a F360 CS; now that, I can understand.

This? Just a shopping trolley that's been tweaked.

Is your knowledge of the CSL limited to what you saw on top gear?

The boot liner (the cover over the tyres inflator etc) so to speak is "cardboard" not the actual floor...
