Sounds like someone wants to sell off the TVR brand/IP/whateversleft and needs to show the buyers there's some value left in it by creating some buzz.

It would be good, just once to see GB PLc working as a constructive and positive industrial unit. As it is you have B(w)ankers doing their level best to ruin the country. If nothing else by insisting on buying German cars not better how good the alternatives, Cameron and Co being delighted that starbucks are opening 300 new drive thru cafes, so that 300 other regular and likely better cafe's can be shutdown, whilst wondering why GB PLc cannot get out of recession.
UK manufacturing struggling along whilst being forgotten by many and in the brave new world of global manufacturing give it all to China so we can have sub standard items in return.

Bristol has been purchased by Frazer Nash who are determined not to let Bristol die and are planning a new car.
At least DB with Lotus, had a plan and a kind of method to get there. Wouldn't it have been nice if the UK govt said (f**k it) heres 500mn go do something great and got the Citya to cough up.
Anyway I hope that TVR makes it back. Pick up a V8 from Jag and stuff it in the Sagaris to start with. Why purchase a sub std US V8 that makes 100BHP.

Ahh that's better. I am sure Peter Wheeler is not happy up there on his Chimera jig bed.

I don't see why it's such a big deal if jigs have been scrapped. Buy a car and build the jig from it. Make a mould from the bodywork.

It'll never happen TVR is double dead!
Not only has the brand been damaged with the whole wind farm thing. But also you aren't allowed to build what a TVR is any more!

The whole idea of a cheap steel spaceframe, fibreglass body and big V8 can no longer be done. It'll have to have traction control, ABS, Airbags, crumple zones, side impact protection etc. All of which adds weight and cost, so it'll come out at about £100k.

And if you want a massive V8, front engine, simple, fast car then the Americans can offer a wide selection.

Alternatively if you want a massive V8, front engine, fast car that also goes round corners and is British then buy a Jag F-Type!

This is like some B-movie trailer for a film that will never get made; 'Return of the TVRs: Back from the dead'.

It's amazing what a website with just three words can accomplish.

Let's be brutally honest here

As a brand, TVR isn't worth much. There's a hardcore of enthusiasts but they'd be suspicious of anything 'new' and the rest of the world sees it as a company who made odd looking super-fast cars which blew-up a lot.

As far as the 'existing' cars are concerned, there's nothing TVR made which isn't now in need of a massive revamp just to make it legal to sell almost anywhere outside Bumfkistan - so apart from the possibility of supplying parts and upgrades to existing owners, there's no much of value there either.

Taking another once loved British marque as an example - the very best your could hope for is a TVR equivalent to the MG:TF - are you STILL excited? smile

Eh?

It can be done, the country is littered with small outfits making such cars they are called kit cars you can make your own in your shed without an ABS or airbag in sight.

RE. Starbucks: So your saying any non-uk based company should not be allowed to expand into England?

You are right however about UK manufacturing as we don't build many cars in the UK any more, apart from of course:
Ford,
Jaguar,
Land Rover,
Honda,
Nissan,
Mini,
Bentley,
Rolls Royce,
Aston Martin,
Lotus,
Morgan,
Arial,
Caterham,
and I'm sure a few others...

If the government had given £500M to DB at lotus we'd be £500M worse off than we are now. He was an idiot!

Actually, perhaps it's more like that episode of Buffy where her sister tries to bring mum back from the dead despite the warning that dear old mum won't be quite the same as before and it's definitely not a good idea. Turns out she does it anyway and they have to delete the zombie mum before things get weird. Don't let that happen to TVR.

This has to be in the running for quote of the year:

"We are coming up with a detailed plan," ... "It'll probably have totally new styling. The engine we haven't decided on."

Sounds like a half-arsed plan if you ask me laughlaugh

In which Barry Chesthair goes around stabbing people with a broken crankshaft.

Of course more people die from starvation as he curses their cars to consume their wealth wink

More details here at Autocar. Seems the Smolensky has sold TVR Cars to someone called Les Edgar in the UK. This is sounding more promising.

Les Edgar of Bullfrog?

Hmm, i wonder if they have decided on the shape of the wheels. Round, or square?

Is that a mistake in that Autocar article? They refer to him as a "banker".
